Nominate a W9 Volunteer
Do you know a Ward 9 resident who has volunteered more than 5 years in the city of Mississauga (3 years for under 16)? Let them know their time and commitment is appreciated by nominating them for the
2019 Ward 9 Volunteer Award
.
Last year I had the honour of recognizing almost 100 Ward 9 volunteers at a special ceremony. This spring, I will be once again recognizing Ward 9 residents who have dedicated their time to making our community a better place. The recipients of the Ward 9 Volunteer Award will be recognized at a reception at the Erin Meadows Community Centre on May 8, 2019 and will receive a special pin and certificate to commemorate their years of service.
Nominations are on the
Ward 9 website
and are open until April 10, 2019.
You can also print and mail the completed form to: Pat Saito, Councillor Ward 9, City of Mississauga, 300 City Centre Drive – 3rd Floor, Mississauga, Ontario L5B 3C1 or fax to my attention to: 905-896-5863.
Vision Zero Strategy
As Chair of the Mississauga Road Safety Committee, I was pleased to move the new Vision Zero Strategy prepared by our staff to Council. This plan will shape the way we address safety for all on our roads over the short and long term. Our committee is looking forward to moving ahead with new educational campaigns aimed towards our goal of zero injuries or fatalities on our roads. We want to ensure all people can travel safely everywhere in Mississauga and the Region of Peel.
New Pedestrian Crosswalk Approved on Glen Erin Drive
Council recently approved my request for a pedestrian activated crosswalk on Glen Erin Drive south of Thomas Street. This will provide safe crossing for pedestrians using the trail through Sugar Maple Woods and Middlebury Park and school. I have been trying to get a crossing here for some time and I am pleased Council has supported it. This meets our goals in our Vision Zero Strategy.
New Signals Battleford and Glen Erin
You may have seen the city installed new traffic signals at Glen Erin and Battleford. These will be activated soon and are part of our regular signal upgrade program. Staff did agree to my request to add left turn signals at the location as it made sense to do this when the work was being done. These will operate at peak hours when 3 or more vehicles are waiting to turn.
Draft Transportation Master Plan
Council will soon be considering approval of our new Transportation Master Plan. The policies in the plan will shape how we move around in Mississauga from today to 2041. For information visit

Geese Killed at Lake Wabukayne
I was horrified to learn in January that someone was killing geese at Lake Wabukayne. I’d like to thank area residents who brought this matter to my attention. In response, our Corporate Security added this location to its patrol list. If you have any additional information you can provide on this heinous act, please send an email to

Report Suspicious Activity
Residents can and should report any suspicious activity in our parks or at city facilities to our Facilities Watch staff 24/7 line at:

Snow Clearing Services
Winter is still here so check to see what levels of service we provide. This winter has been extremely hard for our crews to keep roads and sidewalks cleared. Freezing rain on top of snow has made the job almost impossible in some areas. Please exercise caution and report any unsafe locations to 311.

Region website

Parking Reminder
Reminder that vehicles may not park on any streets year round between 2 and 6 am. You may request a parking consideration if you have guests staying overnight. This may be removed in case of a need for snow removal. Visit the
City website
for information.

Be A Snow Angel - Help a Neighbour
There are many people who can't shovel their driveway due to age or health. Be a good neighbour and help them out. Students may be able to earn volunteer hours by helping their neighbour.
Take Care of Pets in Cold Weather
As we approach cold winter weather, please remember that pet owners are required to provide proper shelter and care for their pets. Do not leave your pet outside when there are extreme cold alerts.
