Loss of ILWA Board Member Dave Schwartz

With sincere sadness, we share the loss of our board member, Dave Schwartz, who passed after a brief illness on December 26th. Dave was a great asset to our board, always kept a watchful eye over Clason Beach and faithfully participated in the Indian Lake Neighborhood Watch meetings. He always found a way to make us laugh. Dave was the husband of our treasurer, Diane Schwartz.

Together, they have given so much of their time and energy to our neighborhood. Please continue to keep Diane and the Schwartz family in your prayers.

While services have passed, we share this link should you like to learn more about Dave. His family requests that donations in his memory be made to St. John's Food for the Poor  Program, 20 Temple Street, Worcester, MA 01604.

SAVE THE DATE!

West Boylston Street Wall Replacement Complete!

We are so very thankful to State Representatives Jim O'Day and John Mahoney for moving the sound barrier replacement between West Boylston Street and West Boylston Drive forward. The old wall had become a huge eyesore in the middle of our neighborhood.

It is wonderful to see this fresh new design!
Worcester Police Issue Information about Coyote Sightings

Following is communication from the City of Worcester Police Department issued on January 22nd. The frequent sightings have continued in the Indian Lake area thus it's important to stay informed and vigilant:

Please be advised that there have been coyote sightings within the City of Worcester. Most recently, sightings have occurred in the Forest Grove, Indian Lake and Brattle Street area. Coyotes have been known to go after cats and small dogs, as well as garbage cans, compost, pet food and fruit found on residential properties.

There have been a few reports of coyotes attacking dogs.

If a coyote is observed in the daytime that shows no fear of humans, is exhibiting aggressive or rabid- like behavior, or if a coyote attacks a person, contact the police department immediately. (508) 799-8606 or 911

Here's what you need to know-

Ararat Brook Inlet at Shore Drive

We are very grateful to District 1 City Councilor Sean Rose, Mayor Joe Petty, along with project managers from the City of Worcester Department of Public Works & Parks and Mass DOT for meeting with the ILWA board in the fall to listen to our concerns about the Ararat Brook inlet. Ararat Brook has long been noted as the largest source of nutrients entering Indian Lake from the watershed. The City of Worcester has made significant improvements to storm water controls throughout the watershed over many years. However, the brook remains problematic. Studies continue to be done to identify nutrient sources within the watershed with particular focus on Ararat Brook and upstream contributions to the brook that will ultimately provide guidance for nutrient source reduction efforts.

We remain very hopeful that further controls can be installed as part of the upcoming alignment project at Shore Drive and Drummond Avenue and we are grateful that the City of Worcester recognizes the importance of making improvements at the brook inlet.

The Shore Drive/Drummond alignment project is a Mass DOT project with design elements provided by the City of Worcester.
Indian Lake Spring Cleanup Saturday,
May 11th

Please join us on Saturday, May 11th from 9 to 12 for our annual fall cleanup which is focused on Indian Lake and the public spaces that surround it.

Projected locations are shoreline cleanup, Morgan Park, Clason Road beach, Shore Park, Frostholm Memorial, Hapgood Brooks Memorial, Little Indian guardrail and Sears Island Causeway.

As always, list is dependent on the number of volunteers. Torrential rain attributed to our fall cleanup cancellation so there is much work to be done.

Please meet at Morgan Park at 9 am on May 11th.
