The  Region 6 South Central Public Health Training Center   will be closed Tuesday, December 24, 2019 through Wednesday, January 1, 2020 for Winter Break.

University of New Mexico MPH student Gabriel Gaarden reflects on his experience at Three Sisters Kitchen
I completed my summer traineeship with Anzia Bennett at Three Sisters Kitchen in downtown Albuquerque. My project involved serving as a co-coordinator for the FreshRx program, a community-based fresh local produce prescription pilot program for food insecure households of the downtown Albuquerque area. The pilot program lasted 20 weeks, serving approximately 25 households with $15 in fresh produce sourced exclusively from local farms. To complement improved access to fresh local produce, the program also offered monthly community nutrition and cooking classes to help participants improve self-efficacy with preparing fresh produce in ways that taste great and nourish the body. The traineeship gave me hands-on practical experience in numerous skill areas that support my development as a student and a public health professional including community outreach and program planning.

Transgender Health 103: LGBTQ+ Healthcare Workplace Inclusion

Transgender Health 103: LGBTQ+ Healthcare Workplace Inclusion reviews workplace inclusion issues pertaining to LGBTQ+ individuals. It is designed for healthcare, behavioral health, and public health practitioners administrators, and leaders who wish to enhance their capacity to serve the transgender community in their practice.

Course Learning Objectives include:

•  Describe the importance of a trans-inclusive
workplace and why protections for
employees of all genders are important

•  Identify components of an LGBTQ+
inclusive workplace

•  Recognize current federal and state-level
policies and regulations with respect to
LGBTQ+ workplace inclusiveness

Tribal Behavioral Health

The Tribal Behavioral Health curriculum is designed to provide general guidance and understanding to increase the knowledge of behavioral health in the American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) population and among tribal health departments, including issues and challenges — and organizations seeking to improve AI/AN behavioral health.
 
The 4 courses included in this curriculum will cover several topics related to behavioral health in the AI/AN population, including historical trauma and current issues.
