On Wednesday, February 27 the Bishop Kelly Community is modifying our school day in order to give our Faculty, Staff, and Students the opportunity to attend the Funeral for our longtime Girls Basketball Assistant Coach, Larry Crump Senior. Coach Crump bravely battled pancreatic cancer for the last 3 years. He was a true fighter, just a couple of weeks ago he was still on the bench supporting our Girls Basketball Team at districts. In Coach Crump's 30+ year coaching career he positively impacted countless lives, and he will truly be missed by his Bishop Kelly family.

Please keep our own Larry Crump Junior, and all the Crump family in your prayers during this time of loss. You can view the obituary and leave condolences for the family here .

Knights of the Week!
Faculty and Staff can nominate any student they have witnessed demonstrating the BK Way attributes of Faith, Safe and Caring Place, Academic Excellence, Activities, Honor, Generosity, Community, and Partnership. Bishop Kelly Students can nominate Faculty and Staff who they feel demonstrate these qualities.

Congratulations to this week's Knights of the Week!
Congratulations to Bishop Kelly's National Merit Finalists, and National Merit Commended Scholars! Approximately 3.3% of high school seniors are recognized as National Merit Commended Scholars, and only 1% achieve the National Merit Finalist recognition!

The National Merit® Scholarship Program is an academic competition for recognition and scholarships that began in 1955. High school students enter the National Merit Program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, which serves as an initial screen of approximately 1.6 million entrants each year, and by meeting published program entry and participation requirements.

We are very proud of our National Merit Commended Scholars, and National Merit Finalists!

Garrett Ford - Community
Brenner Adams - Community
These two students took it upon themselves to help those involved in a traffic accident on Wednesday morning. Garrett and Brenner stayed at the site until help arrived and comforted the victims that included a 1 year old baby! Their compassion and composure did not go unnoticed by the deputy in charge. He personally called the school to commend these young men.
Mrs. Kim Meier - Safe and Caring Place, Generosity, Academic Excellence

  • Mrs. Meier may possibly be the nicest person I have ever met in my entire life. She is a blessing everyday and I am thankful to have a caring and understanding teacher like her every day. She not only puts in the effort to help every student but creates an environment where the students feel safe to ask for help.

  • She is the best teacher and nicest teacher I've had at BK.

  • Mrs. Meier is an extremely kind teacher. She helps each student she can and she works really hard. She shows genuine care for all of her students and deserves to be this week's Staff of the Week.

  • All day I couldn't focus and just needed someone to talk to who could help me, automatically Mrs. Meier popped in my head. When I went to talk to her she was very nice, listened to me and even gave me advice on what to do. I love how easy it was to talk to her and I wasn't scared or anything I knew I was in a safe and caring place.

  • Mrs. Meier is one of my favorite teachers and really helps me to understand biology in a fun or interesting way. She hasn't received this award this year and completely deserves it.

  • She is very intelligent and help bring people together, teaching them so much.

  • Mrs. Meier is such a positive person, and she welcomes everyone with a bright smile everyday. She manages to make AP Biology incredibly entertaining and understandable, no matter the topic. She always comes by each student to check in on how they are doing, not just on the current assignment, but on how their day has been as well. I look forward to learning something new everyday in her classroom!

Feedback on Possible Changes for 2019 - 2020
As we plan ahead for the 2019-2020 school year, we don't anticipate any "major" changes, but we are considering some small tweaks here and there. Two possible changes that were both initiated by students are:

1) slight changes to the dress code to allow longer hair by male students, and

2) slight changes to the bell schedule to allow more time for clubs to meet, etc.

Please take 1 minute out of your day and provide your input on these two initiatives.

Your input on both of these items are valuable in our decision making process. If you don't have an opinion one way or another on the questions below, use the "NA" or "No Opinion" options as necessary.
The BK Foundation is hiring!
The Bishop Kelly Foundation for Bishop Kelly High School in Boise, Idaho, is seeking an Executive Director. Official start date is January 1, 2020, but there will be a significant paid transition period.

The Executive Director for the Bishop Kelly Foundation must be a motivated self-starter who can manage events, donor relations, deadlines, finances, schedules, contract employees, and volunteers with little to no direct supervision.

Visit  The BK Employment Page for more information.

Speech and Debate
We had two great tournaments in the last two weeks! We were at Ridgevue High School for the Warhawk Invitational for only debate. Then we went to the National Qualifier Tournament at Renaissance and Boise High School. Some of the highlights below:

At the Warhawk Invitational 5 rounds were offered but shortened down to four due to weather. Houston Phillips took 2nd speaker and top Presiding Officer in Congress Debate, and Bryce Colleran Finished 5th in Lincoln Douglas.

At the National Qualifier Tournament. Houston Phillips went to finals and  qualified  for Nationals in Congress Debate which will be in Dallas. Please share in our joy and congratulate him. Aidan Scanlan went to semifinals in Informative speaking, as did Marijke O'Sullivan in Original Oratory, the most competitive events of the tournament!

This weekend, we go to District Debate at Kuna High. Please wish us luck in sending as many students as possible to State Debate!
