Economic Development Initiatives

The Economic Development Department has been working on a number of initiatives. Please consider leveraging the following resources when negotiating with potential tenants:

Workforce Development
The Village of Schaumburg, in partnership with several municipalities and organizations, has become a driver of workforce development in all commercial industry sectors.

Harper College - Harper College has a number of apprenticeship opportunities available including CNC precision machining, industrial maintenance mechanics, and logistics & supply chain management.

GCAMP - The Golden Corridor Advanced Manufacturing Partnership (GCAMP) is a regional organization dedicated to increasing the skilled workforce in the greater Schaumburg area. GCAMP strives to provide education, training, and employment opportunities to students, parents, schools, and manufacturers.

Schaumburg Township - Schaumburg Township Employment Support Center has a number of individuals looking for a variety of different types of work. It provides assistance to job seekers in order to provide Schaumburg employers with top talent to fit their hiring needs.

Illinois workNet - The Illinois workNet program is one of the most comprehensive employment, business services and support resources available. The organization leverages partnerships and technology to expand seamless and real-time access to workforce development resources.

Next Level Northwest
Next Level Northwest (NLNW) is a free business accelerator program for businesses that have moved beyond the start-up phase but have not yet reached their full potential. Interested companies can pitch themselves to a panel of judges during one of the village's "pitch nights" throughout the year. Once accepted, the business will be paired with professional business coaches and mentors. To qualify, businesses must have been in business for at least three years and reached certain financial milestones.

Illinois SBDC
The Illinois Small Business Development Center (SBDC)  at Harper College can help no matter which phase of business a company is in. Exploring a new business idea, hiring for open positions, or structuring the purchase or sale of a business; are all parts of the SBDC's free services. The SBDC at Harper College has a talented team of seasoned business advisors who will help business owners identify, understand and overcome the challenges of running a successful business.

Transportation
During the ED Department's business retention visits, transit issues for employees are some of the most commonly cited challenges. Many of these businesses are not aware of the variety of transportation options available. Here are some of the most beneficial opportunities:

Metra - The Milwaukee District West (MD-W) and Union Pacific Northwest (UP-NW) train lines have several stations within 5 miles of Schaumburg. Riders can choose to take the train in from Chicago to the Schaumburg, Roselle, Hanover Park, Arlington Park, or Palatine Metra stations.

Pace - In addition to the numerous routes in and around the Schaumburg area, Pace operates routes that travel directly from the previously mentioned Metra train stations as well as routes that go to and from the Elgin area, Rosemont Blue Line, north Schaumburg business area, and Woodfield Regional Center. See below for additional details on these routes.

Pace Vanpool  - Workday rideshare arrangement that can help employees enjoy a more comfortable and more affordable commute. The program is available for all commuters who live or work in Cook, DuPage, Kane, Lake, McHenry and Will counties.
