Dear RDGA Delegates,
I hope this newsletter finds you all well - wherever you spend your off-season.
I've been weathering the winter nicely - and we'll all be on the course before we know it.
Although it's been a long winter, the recent run of mild weather reminds us that Spring is now less than a month away - to be followed shortly after by our annual "opening drive," at the
RDGA Spring Meeting!
With that, here are this month's action items for RDGA Club Delegates:
THE 2018 RDGA SPRING MEETING: This year's
RDGA Spring Meeting is scheduled for
Tuesday, April 10 at
6:30 p.m. at
Monroe Golf Club.
If you have not already signed up, please do so immediately. Delegates should make every effort to attend - many of us plan
vacations in April, so if you need to, please ask someone to take your place so that your club is represented. This event is where you will pick up your TOURNAMENT POSTERS and other important information about the 2018 season for your club!
Also, prior to the Spring Meeting, please consider sending a picture of yourself to Dave Eaton at the RDGA office (email to: daveeaton@RDGA.org), so that we can use it for the posters that you can place at your club this year. We did this last year - and the ones that did it looked nice!
To confirm your attendance at the 2018 RDGA Spring Meeting,
please call the RDGA office at 585-292-5950 - or stop by at 2024 West Henrietta Rd., Suite 5H, Rochester, NY 14623 to say hello and sign up in person!

USGA 'TOURNAMENT MANAGEMENT' TRAINING: In the Fall, the RDGA Staff held two large training seminars for the new
USGA Tournament Management (or "
TM") system at Oak Hill Country Club. Now, the
RDGA Staff has scheduled four smaller sessions this spring for those
RDGA Member Clubs who were not able to attend the earlier sessions. Some of you indicated on your survey responses that you didn't have enough time to inform your clubs of those sessions -
so here is your chance!
If your club was unable to send a representative to one of the previous
RDGA TM seminars, there are four new opportunities for your Club's management to attend a smaller training session at the RDGA office this spring. These seminars are perfect for your club's professional staff - or anyone who handles your club's tournament scoring and preparation.
Remember, the USGA TM is a FREE SERVICE being offered to RDGA Member Clubs and is REPLACING the older "TPP" software that had previously been used.
Here is the schedule for the new in-house training sessions being offered:
- Monday, March 5 - (10:00 am - 1:00 pm)
- Monday, March 19 - (10:00 am - 1:00 pm)
- Friday, April 6 - (10:00 am - 1:00 pm)
- Friday, April 20 - (10:00 am - 1:00 pm)
There is room for 15 people to attend each session, on a first-come, first-served basis. In order to avoid overbooking for these dates, please email
Ryan Mehnert at the RDGA office (
ryanmehnert@RDGA.org) with your club name, your party size (maximum of 3), and which date you wish to attend. We ask that you bring one laptop per group for interactive training.

BIG CHANGES IN STORE FOR THE GOLF HANDICAP SYSTEM: On Tuesday, February 20, the
USGA, in conjunction with the
R&A, announced that by
2020, a new
World Handicap System will be adopted, replacing the current
GHIN system and designed to provide all golfers with a consistent measure of playing ability globally.
The idea for a new, unified system was conceived by the USGA and The R&A and developed following an extensive review of systems administered by six existing handicapping authorities: Golf Australia, the Council of National Golf Unions (CONGU) in Great Britain and Ireland, the European Golf Association (EGA), the South African Golf Association (SAGA), the Argentine Golf Association (AAG) and the USGA.
Although still two years away, the USGA has produced several informative documents, infographics and videos to help outline what the changes mean to the average golfer, as well as the timeline for when they will be adopted.
In order to assist you and your fellow club members with this, we recommend going to the page of the RDGA website that outlines these changes and includes a central location for all the various media provided by the USGA.
