Principal's Message
November 30,  2018
Dear Families and Friends of OLQP:
We are well into the second nine weeks, approaching the Advent season, and making the most of the instructional days before Christmas. Walking the campus, you are likely to see students working on hands on STREAM activities as students learn about electrical circuits, sink or float, how to measure and record data, the water cycle, and more. You might hear classes singing Christmas songs as they prepare for the annual Christmas concert. If you were here on Wednesday, you could have witnessed the living history "museums" that populated the halls as students shared their Biography Day reports which were the culmination of research, note taking, writing a research paper, practicing presentation skills, and, in many cases, coming up with creative ideas for costumes.
On Biography Day, the saints, authors, presidents and first ladies, historical figures from American history, Texas history, and world history, athletes, and other "famous" people paraded around Marian Hall pausing to announce their subjects to the assembly. The students were reminded that God had a plan for each of the people they learned. Just as surely, God has a plan for each of their lives - a plan that uses their unique gifts and talents in a way that will bring them happiness while making the world a better place.
Thank you for being part of the mission and ministry of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic School.
Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam,
Mrs. Marianne Mechura, M.Ed.

Did You Know?
                Forest Glen
Middle school students enjoyed classrooms without walls during their visit to Forest Glen the week before Thanksgiving. This facility provides science classes, leadership development, and time for fellowship in a beautiful, rustic setting. Students learned about reptiles and amphibians, predators and prey, played games like flashlight tag, were challenged by the zip line and high ropes, and cooperatively solved problems like the "human knot." Additionally, morning and evening devotionals enhanced the students' experience and deepened their Faith. Last but not least, OLQP students remarked that having time to be with their friends and grow even closer was another important part of the trip. Academics, leadership, Faith, and friendship...What's not to like?

"What is the Hour of Code?
The Hour of Code started as a one-hour introduction to computer science, designed to demystify "code", to show that anybody can learn the basics, and to broaden participation in the field of computer science. It has since become a worldwide effort to celebrate computer science, starting with 1-hour coding activities but expanding to all sorts of community efforts."

OLQP is registered to participate in the Hour of Code week from December 3-9. Hour of Code will be open to students in K-8.
