Donegal Presbyterian Church will celebrate the 300 anniversary of its founding in August, 2021. Part of the church's preparation for the celebration is to explore and re-emphasize its Scots-Irish and Celtic Roots.
As an advent to the various activities and celebrations over the next two years, the church will host a Celtic Evensong Service on October 21 in the church sanctuary. Referencing a long tradition of worship tied to seasons of the year and of particular prayer for various times of day, this service will focus on "putting aside the cares of the world and resting in the arms of God" through traditional Celtic music, scripture readings and responsive prayer.

Creative Writing as a Spiritual Discipline

First Forum: Rev. Dr. Debra Bronkema, Pastor and author

First Presbyterian Church of Strasburg
Rev. Dr. Debra Bronkema, Pastor and author will be coming to FPC Strasburg as part of their First Forum series to speak about her recently released book Finding Manna as well as sharing her experiences with us. Dr. Bronkema received her Master of Divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary and has earned a Doctor of Ministry from Columbia Theological Seminary with a focus in creative writing and spiritual practice. She now serves as the pastor of Pleasantville Presbyterian Church in New York. She and her husband were formerly the Co-Directors of Cedarkirk Camp and Conference Center in Lithia, Florida.
Dr. Bronkema will be speaking on the topic of creative writing as a spiritual practice in addition to the themes of her new book such as discernment, living out faith regarding justice, and meeting people where they are. The forum will be held Saturday October 20th, at 7pm where she will speak and hold a question and answer session. Along with the forum Dr. Bronkema will be giving the sermon at both services, 8:30am and 11am, at FPCS Sunday October 21st. First Forum events are free and open to the public.

Rise Against Hunger Meal Packing Event

Goal: 70k meals and 600 volunteers

Westminster Presbyterian Church, West Chester
Come out and join Westminster Presbyterian Church and Rise Against Hunger pack 70,000 meals to support feeding programs in developing countries. Westminster PC welcomes volunteers from surrounding congregations and communities to join in this meal packing event.
Rise Against Hunger's meal packaging program is a volunteer-based initiative that coordinates the assembly-line packaging of highly nutritious dehydrated meals comprised of rice, soy, vegetables, and 23 essential vitamins and minerals. Since the inception of the meal packaging program in December 2005, these packaged meals have been used primarily to support school feeding programs in developing countries. Hunger is the common thread among the world's most challenging issues. Targeting hunger - specifically by supporting school feeding programs - leverages support to other causes including poverty, disease, education, and the welfare of women and children.

Piano Dedication Concert featuring Debra Lew Harder

Trinity Presbyterian Church, Berwyn, PA
On October 14, Pianist, teacher, writer, and WRTI classical host Dr. Debra Lew Harder performs on Trinity PC's new Mason & Hamlin BB seven-foot grand piano for its dedicatory concert.
Titled "Overcoming the Odds - Illness and Creativity of the Great Composers", Harder explores, through live musical performance and conversation, how many of the composers we consider the titans of Western music had to overcome serious debilitating illness. What compelled them to keep creating? How did their personal challenges allow them to become more innovative? Hear these geniuses' incredible music, and learn how creativity helped Beethoven, Chopin, Scott Joplin, Gershwin, and Hildegard von Bingen transcend disease.
We invite the community to come join us for this very special program, in the celebration of this very wonderful instrument. A light reception in Fellowship Hall will follow the concert.
