A Note from the Principal
We are more than halfway through the first quarter of school.  Time is flying by. All of our students are working so hard on academics, fine motor skills, gross motor skills and social emotional skills.  We are growing and trying to become more independent. We are so proud of all the hard work our students are doing. Since we are already five weeks into the year some routines have been established and we are hoping to continue to develop those routines.  So we are asking all Kindergarten parents to use car line or the bus and if you are bringing your child and don't use car line to drop them off at the door and let them walk up on their own. We have staff available if your child needs assistance. Thanks for your cooperation and if you have any questions don't hesitate to call me.  Hope to see you all at movie night on Friday Oct. 12.
Kindergarten Counselor Corner
This week in the classrooms we discussed bullying. We showed the students a quick video on how bullying is defined and we then went over the definition. Here at the EEC, bullying is defined as one student or a group of students being mean and hurtful to another student repeatedly , on  purpose and is one-sided/goes one way . We talked about the difference between a student making a bad choice or getting in an argument vs. bullying behavior; which again is repeated, on purpose, and is one-sided. We read the story The Recess Queen to the students and talked about the choices the main characters were making in the book. Lastly, we reviewed the EEC rules against bullying. These rules are:
  1. We will not bully others.
  2. We will try to help students who are being bullied.
  3. We will include students who are easily left out.
  4. When we know someone is being bullied, we will tell and adult at school and an adult at home.
We will continue talking about this topic next time we meet with the students. We will talk about standing up against bullying and appropriate ways for students to combat and report bullying.
If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out by calling us at Gilles-Sweet Elementary or emailing us at mschulte@fairview.k12.oh.us or rschlesinger@fairview.k12.oh.us

Thanks,
Meredith Schulte and Robin Schlesinger

Fairview Park PTA Council "Reflections" Art Program
The Ohio PTA, through National PTA, holds an annual cultural arts program, Reflections.

Children in Preschool through 12 th grade are encouraged to create and submit original works of art in six areas; literature, visual arts, photography, dance choreography, film production and music composition.  The Reflections program allows PTAs throughout the state to recognize children for their creativity as they reflect on the yearly theme. Teachers, Parents, children, and community can get involved in enhancing art education through the Reflections program. The Reflections program is one of the best examples of the PTA's ability to bring out the best in our youth.  PTA strongly supports education in the arts. It is about creating educational excitement and involvement within our schools between parents, teachers and our kids.

The Parkview PTA along with the Fairview Park Early Childhood PTA will be hosting a fun evening for our Preschool and DAP students!

Being that our theme this year is HEROES AROUND ME, we have invited heroes in our community to talk to the children and create inspiration for their art projects.  These Heroes will include: a police officer, a nurse, a teacher and more! After the students have learned what all of the heroes do, they will create a visual art project for the Reflections program.  The PTA will provide the art supplies.
