Dear ASCLD Colleagues,
A special thanks to Past-President Brooke Arnone and our ASCLD colleagues in Arizona for organizing a ceremony to present 2020 ASCLD Member of the Year Jody Wolf her award. We look forward to recognizing our 2020 and 2021 honorees at our upcoming ASCLD Symposium in Boston.
Boston is known for many things – Fenway Park, baked beans, the Boston Marathon, and history. Boston is also a city of firsts – the first public park, the first public school, and the first subway system. Boston is also the city I was born in, where I work, and where I live, and I look forward to welcoming you all here in April.
President-Elect Laura Sudkamp is already in the swing of things planning ASCLD 2021. The theme Together Toward Tomorrow will be carried through from ASCLD 2020 along with many of our plenary speakers, workshops, and keynote guests. The symposium website, www.ascldsymposium.com is up and running and beginning this week, abstract submission is open! If you were selected to present in ASCLD 2020, we will be contacting you to invite you to present in April and will fill in any gaps with newly submitted abstracts.
The 2020 Virtual Business Meeting PowerPoint and draft minutes have been posted to the ASCLD File Repository. You will need your username/password to access the member area from the ASCLD website. The ASCLD Forensic Research Committee is proud to announce the launch of the Validation and Evaluation Repository. The goal of this activity is share information about important Validations and Evaluations with the forensic science community by compiling a list of unique validations and evaluations conducted by forensic labs and universities. The repository will catalog these efforts and provide the contact information of the people responsible for the work. It is ASCLD’s hope that this listing will foster information sharing, promote communication, and minimize unnecessary or redundant repetition of Validations and Evaluations. ASCLD Emerging Issues: Employee Webinar Series (Archived)
Providing training and education to our membership is a core mission for ASCLD. Despite the unfortunate cancellation of our annual symposium this year, the Symposium Planning and Training and Education Committees found a way to bring timely and relevant content that would have been experienced in Denver, to the ASCLD membership.
Through a generous partnership with the Forensic Technology Center of Excellence at RTI International, ASCLD presented a three-part webinar series entitled ASCLD Emerging Issues: Employee Wellness. Providing training and education in employee wellness is part of the current ASCLD Strategic Plan. In an already stressful profession, as we adapt and lead through the COVID-19 pandemic, this topic is particularly timely.
