News from American Greyhound recapping September and looking forward to October.

September by the Numbers
In September we had 7 adoptions.

This makes our year-to-date totals 83 brought into AG, 13 hauled for other groups, and 96 adoptions.
Promotion at Pet Fair Extravaganza

Ten volunteers in Central Illinois promoted American Greyhound during the annual Pet Fair Extravaganza, a two-day event Prairieland Feeds in Savoy, IL.

Helping Greyhounds by Doing What You're Already Doing

Today, many of us are making more and more of our purchases using Amazon. From socks, to candy bars; heck, you can even purchase toilet paper (and I know some folks who do). Each year, Amazon is becoming a place where more and more of us are making our common, every day purchases.

Well, there's a way that you can make those purchases and help American Greyhound, without costing you one additional cent!

We participate in a program with Amazon which forwards a percentage of your purchase, when you enter Amazon through the link on our website, to American Greyhound. And, your invoice will be the same as if you had gone directly to the Amazon website!

And, here's how it works:

Go to American greyhound's website,  https://www.americangreyhound.org/ and on the home page, click on the "Shop amazon" link.

From there, you'll be directed to the amazon homepage.

Then you just shop the way you normally would.  It's just that simple.

So, now, those purchases you normally make will have the potential to help American Greyhound financially.  American Greyhound even uses this when we are making the purchases necessary to keep the machine running, which re-directs our own money back to us.

In the future, look for more information about this program and how we'll be embedding links in some of the news stories we pass along.

Be Bold, Get Cold!

Every New Year's Day for the last 12 years, American Greyhound's boldest volunteers have started their year off with a dip into the icy cold waters of Lake Michigan!

100% of every dollar raised goes directly to helping American Greyhound help greyhounds find their forever homes. YOU can make a HUGE difference to these noble hounds by clicking here to register for this year's plunge!

Our annual plunge will feature three divisions of plungers:
  • Polar Bears: This is the traditional division in which a plunger head is entirely submersed in the icy cold water of Lake Michigan.
  • Penguins: This division will showcase the plunging talents of our volunteers who want to participate but can't quite make themselves go all the way under.
  • Warm Walruses: This division will feature our virtual plungers who would rather plunge into their warm wooly blankets.
Participants who raise at least $25 in donations from friends, family and co-workers get the privilege of receiving a commemorative Polar Plunge long sleeve t-shirt and entrance into our fabulous After Splash Bash, plus the chance to win additional prizes.

Click here to register and we'll see you at North Avenue Beach on New Year's Day 2019!
Still have questions? Reach out to Sarah Gasienica, our Polar Bear Plunge coordinator at [email protected] or (219) 263-8742.
