Together We Achieve the Extraordinary!

This week marks the end of the 1st marking period and we will continue to strive for excellence and support the academic and behavioral success of our students.

A special "Thank You" to our parents and teachers who attended last month's PTA meeting. We were also pleased to have parents and staff members in attendance during our Thursday, October 4th SAC Meeting. Our SAC Meetings will be held on the first Thursday of each month.  Come join us at our November 1st SAC Meeting 6:00-7:00 p.m. in the Media Center. "It takes a Village" and we need your support. In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, students will showcase their talents and educational learnings. This event will consist of a great evening of fun, education, food, music, art, and celebrations on Thursday, October 11th, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

We are the Tangelo Tigers - making adjustments, accelerating, and educating!

Community Involvement
ELL Pastries with Parents!

Parents of our English Language Learners attended our Pastries with Parents event. The turnout for the event was at least 30 parents interested in learning about the ESOL program at Tangelo Park Elementary.  Parents were given a chance to meet each other and elect a chair, co-chair, and secretary for the Multilingual Parent Leadership Council. We are so happy parents attended and we look forward to more events!

Hispanic Heritage Night

Invitations were sent home for our Hispanic Heritage Month Night at Tangelo Park Elementary.  Please RSVP.

Teacher Spotlight
Meet Ms. Garth!

Q: How long have you been a teacher at OCPS? How long at TPES?
A: I have been teaching in OCPS and at Tangelo Park Elementary for two and half years. This year is the start of my third.

Q: Where did you graduate from college?
A: I graduated from Florida Atlantic University with a degree in exceptional student education (ESE).

Q: What do you enjoy most about being an educator?
A: I enjoy making learning fun, connecting with my students, and creating an inviting space for them to learn. Whether that be moving around to Drake's music to finding a partner to discuss a class topic, filming a news interview based on their research of a historical event, or completing their work on the floor if they want to - they realize that learning is as enjoyable as much I as I think teaching is enjoyable!

Q: What book is your favorite?
A: Out of My Mind by Sharon M. Draper, which is about a young girl with Cerebral Palsy, which means she cannot speak or move. The book goes through her journey of finding ways to communicate and showcasing her intelligence to others who may have judged her based on her disability.

Q: Hobbies, interests?
A: I love dance and music, as well as decorating and traveling!

School-Wide Discipline Plan
ROAR discipline plan to be rolled out this week . . .

Our ROAR discipline plan will roll out this week and we will host our ROAR Night "It Takes a Village" meeting on October 29th from 5:45 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.

Tiger Token Store

HOW: Teachers will specifically give their students points instead of physical token slips. Students will be given token slips as a reward for positive behavior from any adult on campus and they will turn them in to their teacher to log in.

WHEN: The teacher will deposit (log) the points into the Tiger Token Bank spreadsheet. Once a month, the students will go to the store on their designated day with their withdrawal slip to shop in the Tiger Token Store. Students must use all tokens at one time, as points will not roll over.

"Character Education"

Character Education is about building good character traits for our students. It is very important that students learn good ethics and values. Character Education teaches students the value of caring about others, responsibility and honesty.

Each month there will be a different character trait that the students learn about in class.

Two students from each class that demonstrates this trait the most will be able to attend a party in the media center with a treat and movie.

The character trait for October is responsibility!

Library
Students had an opportunity to check out our library! We have books for everyone!

"Flexible Tigers"
Ms. Iton's students are given the opportunity to use alternative seating options while testing.
