From the Desk of the Community Lay Director:

I want to thank the Southeast Community Church for hosting the February gathering. It was a great time of fellowship and worship which was enjoyed by all. I look forward to seeing you at the next gathering to be held in Waycross on March 1st at the Kettle Creek Church. Let us show our support to them by attending. I also strongly suggest you bring a guest and potential pilgrim candidate to the gathering because this is a great way of introducing them to our community.

Just remember what Christ said, “For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them” (Matthew 18:20).

We are currently planning a fall walk; the dates are September 12-15 for the men’s walk and September 19-22 the women’s walk . Remember, we need to have pilgrims for a walk, and for that to happen we all have to do our part to sponsor pilgrims. Currently we have 23 women’s and 21 men’s applications. This is a good start, but that number needs to grow so we can have a full walk which takes 30 pilgrims each. Let’s get those fires burning within us and support our Emmaus Community. Ask yourselves, “do I know a single person who already is a strong Christian and needs help to be a stronger servant within my church”? This is what Emmaus will do for them, and they will in turn be more active within your church.

“I know that you can do all things, and that no purpose of yours can be thwarted” (Job 42:2).

Let us find and strengthen servants of God!

UPDATE ON THE DONATIONS FOR NEW SOUND EQUIPMENT

A BIG THANK YOU FOR THE GENEROUS DONATIONS SO FAR
FOR NEW SOUND EQUIPMENT!

Please prayerfully consider making a monetary donation specifically designated to purchase sound equipment to use in future walks. If you have participated in the last few sets of walks, then you are probably aware there are some major issues with the sound equipment the community owns, as it is fairly outdated and well used!

The fundraising goal is $3,000 and thanks to your generous donations we have already raised $490!

For more information on how to make a donation, please  contact me   for details. Your donations are tax deductible!

SUSTAINING THE SPIRIT

Consider having an Emmaus Sunday at your church! Talk to your pastor about setting up a table with pamphlets to hand out to prospective pilgrims! Pick a Sunday in May to celebrate the Anniversary of the Golden Isles Walk To Emmaus and have all of the Emmaus members wear their badges and crosses to church! You may have church members that have not heard about the Walk to Emmaus or not know who to ask about Emmaus! Spread God's love with action!

Pray for Our Community

‘Do all the good you can,
By all the means you can,
In all the ways you can,
In all the places you can,
At all the times you can,
To all the people you can,
As long as ever you can.’
– Author Unknown

In January we started the New Year by breaking this quote down and evaluating it line by line. Last month we considered how this quote calls us to express love. This month I’d like to encourage you to use this quote as a jumping board to pray for our community.

Have you considered that praying for other people may be the good God has called you to do? By what means and in what ways can you pray? In what places and times? For what people? For how long?

My daughter Mary, who is now 20 years old, was born a Prayer Warrior. She has a heart that is naturally bent toward prayer. Her heart is wide open to the God who made her. That same heart is open to the people God places in her path. At a church camp some years ago we were in the cafeteria when a young girl fell. Mary’s instant impulse was to kneel beside the girl and pray for her. When Mary hears sirens, she prays for the emergency workers to get safely to where they are needed, and to do their jobs well. By watching my daughter, I have learned to be a Prayer Warrior. I have been awed and humbled by the opportunities God has given me to pray for others. I have been just as awed and humbled by the comforting prayers others have offered on my behalf.

A little poem about prayer that I learned years ago goes like this…

“I’ll pray for you,” we quickly say,
and prayer is all we do.
But prayer combined with acts of love
is prayer with follow-through!

Praying for our community begins with the simple desire to do so. Once that desire is in place, we become alert to needs. That awareness leads to prayer for those needs to be met. The more we talk with God, the more easily we are able to see His hand at work. The more we see His hand at work, the more confidently we pray. God opens doors for us to talk to others about the ways we see Him at work, and that sharing strengthens our own faith as well as the faith of the hearer. Our community is strengthened by our prayers for each other.

NOTE FROM ANNE WOJCIK, GIWTE REGISTRAR
Our Golden Isles Emmaus Community has used the database Internet Membership Systems (IMS) to track all aspects of our community to include pilgrim applications, walk and willing servant information. The Upper Room Emmaus staff has worked with the IMS developers to create a new Community Management System to be launched by March 31, 2019. The biggest change in the transition - it is 100% email driven for every community member or pilgrim application to be entered and maintained. When our community data is moved from IMS to Community Management System, any community member (or pilgrim application) without a valid email address will not be moved. If you are not sure if we have a current email address on file for you or if you have recently changed your email address, please email me with your email address no later than March 15, 2019

An important note – when our information is moved to the Community Management System each of you will receive an email from this email address -  from@example.com  inviting you to join Emmaus. Once you have accepted the invitation you will be asked to create a password and you can then log in and update your profile information with your address and phone numbers. We look forward to using this new and updated database system.

Blessings, Anne Wojcik , GIWTE Registrar
