The Voice for Real Estate #95

NEW!

To protect 30-year, fixed-rate mortgages, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac should be given new charters that turn them into utilities with private shareholders and federal backing for catastrophic losses, NAR says.

The association's proposal was introduced at a policy forum it hosted in early February.

Also, using automated texts as part of you marketing could violate do-not-call laws.

If you have clients whose application for a federally backed Rural Housing Service loan got snagged in the shutdown, let NAR know so it can help your clients get priority processing.

Also, a residential and commercial market outlook for 2019.

About 700 people attended the Spokane Kootenai Real Estate Market Forum at the Spokane Convention Center, this week.

2019 SAR President Gina Mosey (pictured above) delivered a 15-minute presentation on the state of the residential real estate market in Spokane County.

This very popular event, now in its third decade, is organized by the Spokane-Kootenai Real Estate Research Committee.

Governmental Affairs Report

WR Legislative Day / SAR photo

Legislative Cut-off Today

The impact of the Unlock the Door Campaign and our Spokane Association of REALTORS® Hill Day appears to have made a profound impact in this year's session.

Washington lawmakers have introduced a near record number of bills, over 2,000 and counting, with over 300 that include the word "housing."

Most of these bills will disappear after the legislative cutoff of February 22nd, when any bill that doesn't make it out of committee automatically dies.

Snow storms have already resulted in several hearings being canceled or postponed.

See the SAR Governmental Affairs Report for February 20th (pictured above), online here.

This document was prepared for, and shared with, the members of the SAR Governmental Affairs Committee who held their February meeting at the SAR this week.

SAR photo

The committee's guest speaker, this week, was newly-elected Spokane County Auditor Tom Konis (pictured above) who offered a view of the residential real estate landscape as he sees it from his office.

Mr. Konis mentioned the total assessed value of Spokane County property will soon top $50B, with an average annual growth of 9-13% in recent years.

This rate of increase in property values is similar to what our own MLS reports (prices up about 12% last year).
