Rector's Ramblings

Rector's Ramblings

Lately I have been reminded of the importance of rest days. Not rest days in the sense of a day off or a Sabbath day, although I've been diligent in taking one day off a week lately. I mean rest days of the sort you work into an exercise routine. More of a recovery day. Some days are considered heavy workout days, and it is a good idea to take it easy the day after to allow your body to recover. The science of recovery is always improving, too. Not only is it about resting, but there are technologies to help you recover faster, from compression clothing to rollers, and even certain foods.

 Children and Youth

Youth and Children's Activities

This past Sunday, Mtr. Katie shared with us about how Paul stayed close to his friends in Rome through letters, even when he couldn't actually see them. Through the Holy Spirit, we can stay connected to God and to each other, despite the physical distances that separate us. See the entire lesson by clicking on the link below.

If you haven't had the opportunity to experience Kidurgy, click HERE , to see the message from the past Sunday. Whether you're a child or a child at heart, you'll enjoy this rewarding presentation of God's Holy Word.

If you need to get in touch with Mtr. Katie, please contact her at [email protected].

This year, we're delighted to announce that the Christ Church Frederica ECW Scholarship Fund for Women has awarded not one, but THREE scholarships to three deserving young women, Waverly Brown, Ma'Kayla Hulett, and Hannah Martin, to support their academic studies in the fall. This initiative of the Christ Church Frederica Episcopal Church Women and the Communities of Coastal Georgia Foundation provides a $2,500 scholarship to female high school graduates pursuing degrees through an academic or technical college or university. The students must be of the Episcopal faith and hale from Glynn or McIntosh County.

The Christ Church Frederica ECW Scholarship Fund for Women was established and funded by many Christ Church women who, over the last seventeen years, have donated to this effort to establish a scholarship program for their young ladies. The fruit of these gifts will now benefit many young women with their future educational goals. In establishing this scholarship the Episcopal Church Women honor those who came before and saw this as just a dream... but now it is a reality.

Our heartfelt congratulations to all three of our 2020 Christ Church ECW scholarship recipients!

School Supplies Needed for Local Students
The new school year, in whatever form it will take in Glynn County this year, is nearly upon us! There are many families in the area that struggle to provide the needed school supplies for their children. In the past few years, Christ Church has worked with GEM (Glynn Episcopal Ministries) to make sure area students have the materials they need for a successful school year. Your generous donations in previous years have gone to help six area schools! Please see the following list and consider helping our area students by donating these school supplies and leaving them on the Parish House front porch in the coming weeks. If you cannot shop for supplies, donations are most welcome, too. Please write, "School Supplies for GEM' in the memo line of your check.

Can You Iron? We Need Your Help!
Christ Church is providing cloth masks for students at Burroughs Molette to wear when students return to school. Masks will be offered each morning, collected each afternoon, and laundered after use. Fourteen hundred masks were purchased using our Pandemic Outreach fund.  We have also obtained iron-on transfers with the Burroughs Molette logo on them. We're hoping a number of parishioners will volunteer to take a share of the masks and work on them, then return them to the church. If you're willing to help iron the transfers onto some of the masks, we will provide instructions and put together a bundle of masks and transfers.

Please contact the church office and let us know if you can help:  [email protected] . If you'd like to support our Pandemic Outreach fund, you can do so online at  ccfssi.org/give  or by mailing a check to the office with "Pandemic Fund" in the memo line.
Diocesan Face Mask Initiative
It's not just our local children and their families who are in need of face masks. The 8,000 children attending the 22 Episcopal schools in The Dominican Republic could use our help, too. School resumes in August, and the government is insisting that all children wear a mask. We can help Bishop Moises Quezada, the Diocese of the Dominican Republic and these children by making and collecting new masks for them. The most efficient way to ship them is to send them to the Dominican Development Group, C/O  St.  Mark's Episcopal Church, 13312 Cain Rd., Tampa FL, 33625, phone: (814-400-2722.)

Haydee and Jim Toedtman of St. Peter's in Savannah, help coordinate our diocese mission initiative in the Dominican Republic. Haydee is shown greeting students at Colegio San Pedro y San Pablo just outside of Santo Domingo during an exploration visit last fall. Any questions can be directed to Jim Toedtman by email ([email protected]) or cell phone - 703-967-0652.
The Backpack Buddies - Getting the Job Done!

The Backpack Buddies continue to team up with concerned friends and organizations throughout Glynn County to make sure that nutritious shelf-stable foods, (and fresh fruits and vegetables, when we can get them), are delivered weekly to young children, homeless teens, needy families and the vulnerable elderly in our community. We cannot thank you enough for supporting this mission through your food donations, monetary gifts, physical hard work and prayers!

Right now, our friends at the St. Athanasius Feed My Sheep Food Pantry, in Brunswick, are still in need of a few items for the folks who are served there. This week's wish list for St. Athanasius includes:

* Full-Sized Cereal Boxes
* Canned Green Beans
* Canned Corn
* Diced Tomatoes
* And, as always, Paper and Plastic Grocery Bags

We are alway grateful for your help with the Backpack Buddies mission! If you have any items you'd like to donate this week, they may be dropped off on the front porch at the Christ Church Parish House.

If you would like to help the Backpack Buddies ministry with a monetary donation, it would be greatly appreciated. You can donate by check (just mail it to Christ Church, at 6329 Frederica Road St. Simons Island, GA 31522 - check memo, Backpack Buddies) or give online HERE (choose Backpack Program) . For more information about the Backpack Buddies program, please contact Susan Shipman at [email protected].
