Adidas Making Significant Inroads
with NHL Consumers

Adidas is in the second year of a seven-year agreement as the NHL's on-ice uniform provider. The creation of Adidas Hockey shows the brand is interested in bringing more to the league and its fans than just licensed jerseys and products.



NHL Goalie Equipment Changes Lead to Return of Iconic Kenesky Brand

Some of the greatest goaltenders in hockey history - Terry Sawchuk, Glenn Hall and Gump Worsley - wore Kenesky gear. But the brand faded out of the NHL in the early 1990s and it appeared to be completely finished when its Canadian store closed in 2015.

But a goalie equipment manufacturer received permission to use the iconic Kenesky name. The timing couldn't have been better with the NHL changes requiring more custom-fitted gear for its goalies.

Cheerleaders a New Twist
to Youth Hockey Program

A suburban Chicago cheerleading program is now performing at area youth hockey games since their opportunities to cheer at football games have diminished. Cheering at the hockey games may also be fueling increased interest in participating in the girls hockey program.
 

Coyotes Push Street Hockey to Arizona School Physical Education Programs

The Arizona Coyotes have started a program to create a street hockey physical education curriculum for approximately 700 schools and 200,000 students in Arizona. The curriculum is for kids from kindergarten through eighth grade and each school will receive $1,500 in Coyotes-branded street hockey equipment.

CCM Extends Streak to Six
as SDC Hockey Supplier of the Year

CCM Hockey was honored for the sixth consecutive year as the Source For Sports/Sports Distributors of Canada (SDC) Hockey Supplier of the Year. The award was presented to CCM at a reception during the Source For Sports/SDC Buying Show and Marketing Convention on Nov. 18-21 in Niagara Falls, Ontario.

The Supplier of the Year award is voted on by SDC members and factors in attributes such as product innovation, marketing support and customer service and terms.

Legendary NHL Coach
Once Sold Hockey Equipment

It was a homecoming for Ken Hitchcock, the third-winningest coach in NHL history, when he was hired a little more than a week ago to get the Edmonton Oilers back on track. Nearly a half-century ago, Hitchcock was helping hockey players in Edmonton with equipment purchases and skate sharpenings at United Cycle, which is now United Sport & Cycle and part of the Source For Sports group.

The collaboration for the purchase of hockey equipment by U.S. hockey dealers between HDA, the National Sporting Goods Association (NSGA) and SDC (Sports Distributors of Canada) continues to grow.

 

Click here to learn more about how the collaboration works and to fill out an inquiry form to start the process. Members of the collaboration take advantage of access to various products and discounts to help their bottom line.

 

There is no obligation to complete the form. Criteria used by SDC to determine participation may include a minimum sales volume of $200,000 in annual wholesale hockey products, credit rating, proximity to existing members and meeting certain store standards.
