From Our Senior Warden “Now thank we all our God with hearts, and hands and voices…” Dear Friends, A year ago Trinity Lutheran Church (TLC) welcomed us into this building and into their lives and activities. It’s been a year of sharing with our sisters and brothers in Christ who quite literally gave us shelter, care and a place to rest after we had spent more than two years of hard spiritual, emotional and physical work. How can we thank those who have given us Tender Loving Care and much-needed rest for a year? Food? Music? Flowers? None of these seemed adequate. As the words of the Thanksgiving hymn above suggest, let’s use our hands and voices to express the gratitude that is in our hearts. Each of us has unique people and/or experiences for which we are grateful in this beautiful building and among these loving people. Let’s each give our heartfelt thanks to both our God and our TLC brothers and sisters, using our hands and voices. Paper, pens and crayons will be available near St. Paul’s coffee corner over the next two Sundays for anyone to write a thank-you note/draw a picture. If committing something to paper is not your “thing”, please make a point to voice a unique, heartfelt thanks to one or more Lutherans between now and All Saints Day. And now, refreshed and rested, it is time to get about the work to which God is calling this unique community of St. Paul’s – the work we have labeled Purpose, Priest and Place. The Thanksgiving hymn above continues with the prayer: “may this bounteous God…guide us when perplexed.” And perplexed we remain…. On November 11 th , there will be an all-Parish meeting to update everyone on our current status and discuss next steps. Potluck Coffee Hour THIS SUNDAY - following both the 8 am and 9 am services - a “Potluck Coffee Hour”! Bring something if you are inspired and feeling creative. The theme is “Pumpkins and Apples”. Think pumpkin spice, apple spice, or...? Finger Foods only. Food should be ready to serve (already cut up and on a serving dish) Room temperature foods only (no refrigeration or heat will be available). Take any leftovers home with you (aka clean up after your own serving dish). Small paper plates and napkins will be available.

It's Time to Volunteer for FFH Our next rotation starts the week of November 11. We need volunteers for: Cooks - Sunday, 11/11, and Saturday, 11/17 (at least 2 volunteers per evening); Evening Hosts - Wednesday, 11/14 (at least 2 volunteers) Overnight Hosts - Monday, 11/12, Wednesday, 11/14, and Friday, 11/16 (at least 2 volunteers per evening). Save the Dates to Celebrate Our Celebrants as they retire and move on to other adventures! Celebrate Jim Visger, Deacon of St. Paul's , Sunday, Dec. 2, 10 am, TLC Room 2. Celebrate Lyn Burns, Interim Rector of St. Paul's , Sunday, Dec. 16, 10 am, TLC Fellowship Hall. Food and drink will be hosted. We will be collecting donations for gifts and receptions. Thanksgiving "Dinner Kit" Drive for Homeward Alliance : You are invited to provide nonperishable ingredients needed for Thanksgiving dinner kits to be distributed to folks recently housed by Homeward Alliance (formerly Homeless Gear) and their partner agencies. Turkeys and cranberries will be provided by the Food Bank of Larimer County. Other items needed include aluminum roasting pans, stuffing mix, canned yams, green bean casserole ingredients, etc. Please sign up in advance for the items you will bring -- the lists are on the counter in the narthex today through Sunday, November 11. Then bring the items you signed up for between this Sunday, October 28, and Sunday, November 18. Location of donation box will be announced. There is a specific list of foods and number of items needed. Financial donations for pumpkin pies and other foods will also be accepted. On Sunday, November 18, volunteers will organize the nonperishable items for delivery to the Murphy Center. Sign up to volunteer on the last page of the food lists. Food Bank Volunteers There is now a sign-up sheet on the St. Paul's bulletin board in the Fellowship Hall for the next Food Bank volunteering opportunity, Friday, November 9, 1 to 3 pm. For more information, call Jo Baietti at 970-223-1686

Turkey Roundup for the Food Bank Saturday, November 10 at 5:00 PM Sunday, November 11 at each of the services all da y. Bring a "rock hard" frozen turkey, and, right before each of the services, look for the green Mazda pickup in the circle drive in front of the church. Len Russ of Mary of Magdala will be ready to receive your bird. The turkeys will then be given a ride straight to the Food Bank for Larimer County. They will be distributed to our less fortunate neighbors.   (If for any reason your turkey has softened or is no longer frozen, the food bank can not accept it.) This annual event is celebrated at the Food Bank, which will hold its own roundup on November 14th. Last year, Mary of Magdala and Trinity Lutheran together collected 56 turkeys. This year, with St. Paul's contributing, we'll provide even more. A gift of thankfulness for everyone!

Please Help Address Homelessness Join the Murphy Center in proclaiming December 8th as Homelessness Awareness Day in Fort Collins . Multiple activities will take place throughout the day, including the annual Mission to Hope Walk (Morning) and the Murphy Center Community Dinner (Evening). Last year, our collaboration helped more than 100 people (including 12 families) along their path to escape homelessness as they prepared for, located and secured affordable housing. Please consider 1) purchasing tickets to the Walk or Dinner, 2) sponsoring a guest of the Murphy Center to attend the Walk or Dinner, 3) buying a table at the Community Dinner, 4) creating a walking team for the Mission to Hope Walk, and 4)donating to support the event. Listening with a New Heart – Pilgrimage in the Islamic and Buddhist Traditions Thursday, November 8, 2018, 6:30-8:30 pm Experience a rare opportunity to dip into the personal spiritual journeys of leaders in the Islamic and Buddhist faiths. What does “pilgrimage” look like in these traditions? Is their spiritual journey a personal experience or a shared one? As we contemplate pilgrimage, are we invited to follow the paths of others or do we make our own, unique journey? What are the motivations that spur such a journey? Outreach Coordinator Shakir Muhammad from the Fort Collins Islamic Center and Buddhist leader Clarke Warren from Boulder have both made pilgrimages to the birthplaces of their founders. Each will talk about the reasons for and gains from these journeys and will share how these journeys renewed them and caused their re-commitment to their faiths. Suggested donation $10; students always free. Childcare provided.

2018 Richard Hagen Lecture 7 pm, November 19 at First United Methodist Church, 1005 Stover Street, Fort Collins D r. Amy G. Oden, when she delivers the annual Richard Hagen lecture, will speak on “Radical Hospitality in a Time of Fear” and how Christians have an opportunity to make a powerful, counter-cultural witness to God’s love through welcoming the stranger. Oden, who teaches early church history and spirituality at St. Paul School of Theology, Oklahoma City, also will sign copies of her latest books.
