Visitors Center Closed Due to Snow

Because of the snowstorm, UW Botanic Gardens has closed the Graham Visitors Center at the Arboretum through this Sunday, February 10. Additional closures of the building may occur as the coming week progresses, depending on weather and road conditions. For updates, visit our website below. As a Seattle city park, the Arboretum itself is open to visitors year round. Stay safe and warm!

Opening Night Auction Preview

Our Opening Night Party at the Northwest Flower & Garden Festival is just 10 days away, on February 19, and we have a limited number of tickets remaining. If you haven't made up your mind yet about joining us, perhaps a sneak peek at our auction will help. Elements of Design: Scale and Proportion

"The challenge with scale and proportion is that plants grow, so your context is always changing. The rhododendron of yesterday's foundation planting is tomorrow's multi-stemmed small tree that is way too close to the house." In the latest issue of the Arboretum Bulletin , executive director of the Miller Botanical Garden Richie Steffen continues our illustrated series on garden design by discussing two related elements: scale and proportion. He defines both elements and talks about his experiences managing and manipulating them.

Summer may feel like it's a long way off, but registration for the Arboretum's coveted environmental education summer camps is now open. The outdoor day camps run from the end of June through August and are available to children ages 4 through 12. Campers explore the natural world, learn observational skills, and make exciting discoveries. Arboretum Foundation members receive a 15% discount on camp fees!

Miller Library Book Sale: April 5 and 6

The Miller Library will host its 14th annual Garden Lovers' Book Sale on Friday, April 5 and Saturday, April 6. Thousands of used gardening, horticulture, botany, and landscape design books will be for sale, and all proceeds will be used to purchase the best new horticultural books and journals. Original artwork from the Pacific Northwest Botanical Artists will also be on exhibit and for sale at the library for the entire month of April.
