Career Connections
As a faculty adviser, you likely assist students with career-related topics in addition to advising. The Career Counselors in the Academic and Career Planning Center are valuable resources for both students and faculty advisers. In addition to appointments with the Career Counselors, there are online resources available to both students and faculty.

Perhaps your advisee knows what major they want but isn't sure about the career options available to them in that major. These resources will allow students to explore their interests, skills, values, and career options.
Some students have resumes that need minor tweaking, while other students need to start from scratch. Often, the internship and job search process is the first time they will have to write a cover letter. Regardless of the student's experience with either of those, these resources will help students with their resumes and cover letters.
This site explains the differences between internships and co-ops. Additionally, the menu on the left provides detailed information regarding the internship process and resources to start that search.
Graduate school can seem intimidating to students. These resources will help students understand if graduate school is the best move for them and what they can expect from that process.
Penn State students have a plethora of resources available to them for the job search process. This site provides links to job search sites, gives tips for the job search process, and highlights Nittany Lion Careers, Penn State's job board.
In addition to the topics above, this site provides students with information on career fairs, interviewing, salary negotiation, personal branding, and other important career-related topics.
To continue learning about career conversations for faculty advisers, join the DUS advisers and Lauri Enterline, Career Counselor, for the next Faculty Adviser Professional Development Series workshop. This session will focus on practical resources in career exploration/planning. There will be two sessions:
