First of all -
THANK YOU to those of you who joined us at
Monroe Golf Club for our annual
Spring Meeting on April 10 - and what a night it was! I heard a few comments about it being long - but we had much information to get out to you!
IMPORTANT NOTE: If
YOUR club did not receive a
Delegate information packet at the
Spring Meeting - or did not have a representative in attendance to pick it up -
PLEASE stop by the
RDGA offices off West Henrietta Road in Henrietta to pick it up as soon as possible (or make arrangements to do so)!
So - now that the weather has finally turned around and courses are starting to open for the season -
IT'S TIME TO GET TO WORK! Here are your "action items" for the month:
RDGA FOUNDATION AUCTION DONATIONS:
One of the topics we heard about at the Spring Meeting was the RDGA Foundation's ForeSight Junior Golf program and how we would like it to grow to include 150 kids this year!
Now in it's third year, this fantastic program is growing in popularity and reach - but it needs additional funding to continue to grow, which is where
YOU, our
DELEGATES can help! I would like each Delegate to go to your
pro or owner this week and obtain a gift certificate or voucher for a
round for a foursome (preferably with carts) at your course. These
donations will be used for our second annual
RDGA Foundation Auction, in which every dollar raised will help to promote
junior golf in Rochester!
HOWEVER -
time is of the essence! We need to get on this so we can put them on the website to be auctioned off earlier this year than last. I did obtain a few last year and it was easy, all I needed to do was ask, mention kids and I got it. Now get to work and ask.
Please let RDGA Executive Director Tim Vangellow (timvangello@rdga.org) know when you have them!
If you would like something in "black and white" to hand to your owner or pro explaining the Foundation Auction and what we are asking for, please click on the link below:

THE 2018 RDGA FOUNDATION PATRON PROGRAM.
Related to fundraising for the RDGA Foundation and all of its efforts to promote junior golf in Rochester is a new program being offered this year - the 2018 RDGA Foundation Patron Program.
For a contribution of $100 for the season, donors get their name on the RDGA website and on the "
Patron board" at
ALL 2018 RDGA tournaments and special events! This is a great way to show your support for the
RDGA and
local junior golf - and it isn't limited to individual donors! If you are a member of a club, a golf league or even just a regular weekly foursome, any donation of $100 to the RDGA Foundation Patron Program gets your name on the banner.
So, Delegates - help us get the word out about this program to your fellow Club members! Your "
sales pitch" can go something like this: "Do whatever you have to do, but scrape together $100, have a raffle, pass the hat at club meetings or give as a club - whatever it takes to support junior golfers in Rochester!"
Again - if having something printed to post on your club's bulletin board helps, then click on the link below!

THE 2018 RDGA PARTNER PROGRAM.
While the RDGA Foundation Patron Program offers the perfect opportunity for individuals or small groups to donate to local junior golf programs, there is also a donation level for larger groups and businesses - the new RDGA Partner Program.
For a $500 donation for the year, a company or organization can have their
logo, name and/or message professionally placed on special tee markers that will be placed on a tee box at approximately 20 RDGA tournaments throughout the 2018 season! In addition to the tee markers, an organization's logo will also appear on the
RDGA website,
newsletters,
tournament scoreboards and
RDGA special events - as well as on the "
RDGA Partner Board" at all tournaments!
My fellow RDGA Club Delegates - most of you work for a company or business, or know someone who owns or works for a local business. Let them know that they can become an
RDGA Partner and have their name, their logo, and a message on tee markers and displayed at all tournaments. So, go to the "powers that be" and ask! As the saying goes -
it doesn't hurt to ask!

RDGA FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS:
It's getting down to "crunch time" for local students to submit an application for the annual RDGA Foundation Scholarship! Do you know a college student at your club who is in need of a scholarship for the 2018-19 school year? The RDGA Foundation Inc. and the RDGA h
ave been providing scholarships for Rochester-area students since 1984!
To be eligible for the
RDGA Foundation Scholarship, applicants must be legal residents of the State of New York in one of the following counties served by the Rochester District Golf Association:

RDGA TOURNAMENT VOLUNTEERS: Now that the actual RDGA tournament season is upon us, I would like to ask those of you whose clubs are hosting events this season to consider volunteering to help support the RDGA Staff at the RDGA tournaments at your club!
The biggest need fo
r volunteers is during the event registration process at RDGA tournaments. As an RDGA Club Delegate - and more importantly, as a representative of YOUR club - YOU can help the RDGA Staff at the tournament registration table at your club by being a "greeter:" that is, someone who knows their club inside and out and can answer questions such as "which way to the driving range?" or "where is the fifth hole?". Not only will you be helping to make the event run more smoothly but you will also be putting a "face" to your club and maybe, just maybe, recruiting a new member!
In return, RDGA Delegates who volunteer at RDGA events will also be invited to stick around (or return) for the hors d'ourvre reception later that day during the post-round scoring and awards ceremony.
Here are a few of the upcoming RDGA events at which we could use volunteers:
- Monday, April 30: RDGA Play Day at Ridgemont Country Club
- Saturday, May 5: RDGA 2-Person Scramble at the Golf Club at Blue Heron Hills
- Saturday, May 19: RDGA 2-Person Best Ball at Shelridge Country Club
- Monday, May 21: RDGA Play Day at Penfield Country Club

As always, thank you for your service as an
RDGA Club Delegate
...we'll see you out on the golf course very soon!
Best regards,
