Iranian American Women's Leadership Conference New York Recap

The Iranian American Women's Leadership Conference in New York on November 11, 2018 was a sold-out and successful event! Over 300 women and men attended, with the central theme of  "My Voice Beyond Limits."
 
The conference showcased many great achievements by Iranian American women from all over the nation. The Shirzan Award was presented by IAWF Founder Mariam Khosravani  to  Ms. Maryam Panahy Ansary  for her outstanding contributions to the society. The conference closed with a beautiful artistic performance by the  Safarani Sisters .

We owe our thanks to the New York Planning Committee Members for helping us host the 17th Women's Leadership Conference on November 11. The contribution of their time and commitment to our cause, allows the Iranian American Women Foundation to keep going and spread its message of empowerment, connection, and inspiration to our peers and beyond!

IAWF Congratulates Judge Tamila Ipema 


Congratulations to Judge Tamila E. Ipema for becoming the President of National Association of Women Judges. 

Justice Judith McConnell, the Administrative Presiding Justice of California Court of Appeal and one of the founding mothers of National  Association of Women Judges (NAWJ) administered the oath of office to the Honorable Tamila Ebrahimi Ipema, Judge of San Diego Superior Court. Judge Ipema became the 39th President of NAWJ on Oct. 6, 2018 in San Antonio, Texas at the NAWJ Annual Conference.

IAWF would like to extend its sincerest gratitude to NY Chapter Leader, Jeyran Ghara, for her outstanding leadership & efforts towards the conference in New York on November 11! 

Jeyran Ghara is a financial advisor with UBS Financial Services advising high-net-worth individuals, families, foundations and endowments as well as small to mid-size businesses regarding their investment strategies. She works very closely with her clients and their professional advisors to help define, plan for and implement a strategy that is designed to meet their financial goals. Jeyran came to UBS in March 2018 from Bernstein Global Wealth Management where she spent 8 years as an advisor after having completed the firm's renowned training program and further leveraging its intellectual capital to build her expertise as an advisor.

Northern California

Born and raised in Iran, she immigrated to the US in 1984. In later years, Violet became a US citizen. She attended De Anza College from 1984 to 1987, after which she transferred to SJSU majoring in Computer Science. She started working for Maxim Integrated Products in 1989. After the birth of her daughter, she changed her career from the high-tech sector to be employed full time by her daughter, and later on by her son. As a consequence, she has been involved with children in different stages and capacities. She was an active volunteer in both of her children's schools. During this time she found her real passion; helping and, working with people. Her work ranges from consoling people with different diseases, mainly MS, to being involved with helping food kitchen, pregnant women and different shelters.

Congratulations to the Honorable Judge Tabaddor for recently being featured on HBO's show VICE (Season 6, Episode 26), discussing the topic of amnesty.

Judge Tabaddor is the current President of the National Association of Immigration Judges (NAIJ). She was appointed to the bench as an Immigration Judge in November of 2005. She has presided over the detained, non-detained, juvenile and mental competency dockets. Prior to her appointment, she served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Central District of California in Los Angeles. She also served as a trial attorney with the Justice Department's Civil Division in Washington D.C., and as a law clerk and attorney advisor for the Immigration Court and the Chief Immigration Judge. She received her B.A., cum laude, from UCLA, and her law degree from UC Hastings College of the Law.

Linda Bernardi is a mindful and bold technology disruptor and serial entrepreneur. In all her endeavors she seeks to help companies disrupt mindfully in order to innovate meaningfully. Her passion is 'data'. Currently, Linda is the Global Head of Strategy at ConsenSys, a 1200-person US and Switzerland based company, focused on enabling comprehensive blockchain deployment. ConsenSys is a constellation of over 50 startups around its core, building the infrastructure, applications, and practices that enable a decentralized world. In 2017 Linda published her 2nd book, The Inversion Factor (MIT Press) focusing on IoT, AI, Blockchain and discusses the necessity of inversion from a Product-Mindset to a Needs/Experience-Mindset, leveraging deep understanding of data. The Inversion Factor received the Axiom Bronze award in Business Theory in 2018. Previously, she served as IBM's Chief Innovation Officer for IoT, Cloud and Cognitive, working to help disrupt and innovate IBM's Fortune 100 customers. Linda is a founding member of the Anita Borg Institute for Women in Technology and the Grace Hopper Celebration. The annual 2017 meeting in Houston had an attendance of over 32,000 from over 100 countries- today the largest women in tech organization.

Pirooz Parvarandeh

Mr. Parvarandeh is an accomplished leader who has committed much of his career to the growth and success of a single company. He was a dedicated employee of Maxim Integrated for 27 years, diligently working through technical and management positions to executive-level roles. Mr. Parvarandeh's primary interest has always been innovation. He developed the first Innovation Council at Maxim Integrated with the intention of inspiring the development of disruptive technologies and allowing for opportunities to "think outside the box." Mr. Parvarandeh has been instrumental in the development of several startups, such as Automotive BU which he grew to well over $100 million while serving as CTO. He has extensive experience with mergers and acquisitions and has evaluated numerous targets from a technology perspective. Mr. Parvarandeh currently serves on the board of directors of iBridges, a non-profit organization.
