TOOLBOX by Dovetail Learning

Earlier this year, St. Rose faculty & staff implemented a new program that supports children in understanding and managing their own emotional, social, and academic success. The foundation of Toolbox is 12 human capacities that reside within all of us. TOOLBOX brings forward a set of skills and practices that help students access their own inner resilience at any time, in any context.

Dovetail Learning is offering an online Parent Webinar, designed to help parents become the parents that they want to be. It includes an overview of the 12 Tools and how they can help when challenges arise at home.
TOOLBOX Parent Online Webinar is TONIGHT, 6-7:30 PM. or Dec. 13th at 3:15 PM.  Click HERE to Join the Webinar meeting.

A Note from Mrs. Ryan
Dear Parents,
On Sunday, December 2 nd , we will  be entering the season of Advent which is the four week period Christians dedicate to making our hearts ready to receive Jesus anew. The Advent season is filled with preparation and expectation. Everyone is getting ready for the more secular trappings of Christmas. It is easy to become so busy with the material preparations that we lose sight of the real reason for our activity: the Word made flesh coming to dwell among us.  As Christians, we are urged to take a step back and look at who we are, what we are doing, and how Jesus fits into our lives while we await the celebration of His birth.

As we strive to impart this message at school, I hope you will support your children's learning by asking them about the Advent lessons they are having in their religion classes. At St. Rose we do everything possible to keep the season of Advent separate from the more celebratory season of Christmas. We do not have Christmas parties during Advent and, instead, celebrate with Epiphany parties when we return in January. This also helps our students understand that Christmas is a season of the Church year, not just a single day.  The scripture at Sunday Mass is particularly rich during the Advent season. Our pastor, Fr. Denis is very adept at helping us understand the scripture and how to apply it to our lives. If you do not already have a habit of attending Mass, Advent is a great time to start.

Yesterday, our students met in their Buddy Bunches to provide outreach to the people of Butte County who are reeling from the devastation of the Camp Fire. They began creating Stars of Hope and Kindness Rocks that will be brought to Chico and surrounding areas as signs of love and hope. As they painted the items they also added their prayers and best wishes. Your children seem to have a deep desire to pay forward all of the kindness that was offered to them last year. I believe it is all part of the healing process in which we are all still engaged.

St. Rose students will be taking part in the 10:30 Mass at St. Rose this Sunday. Teachers are offering incentives for all who attend. I hope you will choose to be present with your child in uniform. What a lovely way to begin the Advent season!
