Voting During the Pandemic: What You Need to Know
Do you have a plan for how you're going to vote in the upcoming Presidential election? Illinois passed emergency legislation for safe voting during COVID-19, so there's something new to learn whether you're a first-time voter or you've been voting since the Eisenhower era.  Join the La Grange Area and Oak Park/River Forest League of Women Voters via Zoom for a non-partisan review of voter registration, new vote-by-mail processes, and expanded early voting. There will be a short presentation followed by a Q&A discussion. Mark your calendars for Thursday, September 3, at 7:00pm.
Strength in Suffrage
Chicago Women's History Center hosts a virtual program on Wednesday, August 26, at 7:00pm on their new "Twitch" channel to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the passage of the Woman Suffrage Amendment in 1920. The program features the work of two talented Chicago artists, Ginny Sykes and Carron Little, who will address the individual emancipation of one hundred women through image and one hundred years of lived experience transformed into lyrical poetry. To join the event, go here at 7:00pm to join the program.
Fall Kick-off
Save the Date! Our Fall Kickoff Event is coming virtually on Wednesday, September 16, at 7:00pm. Reimagining Community Policing: Constructive Community Solutions will include LaDon Reynolds, Chief, Oak Park Police; Sharon Welch, League of Women Voters Chicago; Colleen Sutkus, Sarah's Inn, Forest Park; and Anita Pindiur, Way Back Inn/Grateful House, Maywood. Free and open to the public. Register for the event here.
Gift Shop
Check out the new items in the OPRF Museum gift shop commemorating the 100th anniversary of Women's Suffrage, which will be observed nationally on August 26th. Stop by the museum at 129 Lake Street to look through all new buttons, magnets, and dish towels. You'll also find local history books, OPRF Museum t-shirts, and gift items to share with family and friends. Go here to see more.
Women for the Fair Tax
In recognition of August 18, when the last state ratified the 19th Amendment, the Fair Tax Campaign is compiling a list of 1000 women who endorse the Fair Tax. If -- for whatever reason -- your name is not on the list of endorsers and you want to endorse now, you can do so at this link. Look for our LWV OPRF members already on this list and be inspired!
