Valley Children's Harvest Ball-ECMO

Valley Children's is dedicated to providing cutting-edge care to all of our patients. One such treatment is Extracorporeal Life Support (ECLS). ECLS takes the place of a patient's heart and lungs by pumping blood through an artificial lung that  adds oxygen to the blood and removes carbon dioxide like a healthy lung would. This treatment, also known as Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation, or ECMO, is reserved for the most critically ill or injured patients.

This treatment can support patients for days or weeks and allows their lungs and/or heart to recover while doctors administer treatments to heal the underlying cause of the patient's condition . By investing in the ECLS program, you are investing in futures of kids like Deanna. Watch the video to hear more of her story. To learn more about ECLS, click here.

Carlos Vieira Foundation Donates More Than $15,000
Thank you to the Carlos Vieira Foundation for their incredible donation of $15,500! These funds will support Valley Children's Oncology Department and allow our physicians and staff to continue to provide specialized pediatric oncology care right here in the Central Valley.  "Valley Children's Hospital was the first organization that our foundation donated to with a small fundraiser held on their behalf back in 2007. Knowing that our donation was going directly to helping children in need is the reason we continued to host fundraisers and why we still do today. In partnership with the California Portuguese Bloodless Bullfight Organization, we have now held our 7th Annual Bloodless Bullfight fundraiser for this worthy cause. We look forward to doing the same next year," said Elaina Vieira, Director of Programs and Outreach.  A special thank you to the entire Carlos Vieira Foundation team for their continued support.

Wishon Radiological Honors Dr. Charles Smith
A special thank you to the physicians of Wishon Radiological Medical Group, Inc. for committing to a $50,000 gift toward the Dr. Charles Smith Memorial Fund. This substantial investment honors the legacy of their longtime partner, mentor and friend, Dr. Charles Smith. Dr. Smith devoted 36 years caring for Central Valley kids alongside his Wishon family. The fund created in Dr. Smith's honor continues his legacy of generosity toward Valley Children's Hospital.

"As a great mentor/teacher and advocate for Valley Children's Healthcare, Dr. Charles Smith always invested himself in preparing the next generation of radiologists and physicians, to move us into the future. Wishon Radiology is happy to make this donation on behalf of the Smith family and in remembrance of Dr. Charlie Smith, and his leadership and dedication to our common purpose," said Dr. Fred Laningham, a Pediatric Diagnostic Radiologist at Valley Children's.
