This monthly Resident Educator e-news is designed to provide you with helpful information and resources.

Residency is a time to practice, refine and gain a deeper understanding of the art and science of teaching under the guidance of a certified mentor and the support of a professional learning community.

UPCOMING RESIDENT EDUCATOR CONSORTIUM SESSIONS FOR RESA CANDIDATES
The next Resident Educator RESA seminar 3.2 will be held on Monday, October 22, 2018, from 4:30 to 6:30 pm at the Educational Service Center of Lake Erie West, 2275 Collingwood Blvd, Toledo. We will be working on the important RESA component of Reflection and Analysis.

Please plan to attend this session to learn more about the RESA Lesson Reflection. We encourage mentor/facilitators to attend this session with their mentees.

WHAT YOU SHOULD BE DOING NOW
  • Creating videos of you teaching lessons
  • Choosing some of the PRACTICE videos to discuss with your facilitator/mentor (REMEMBER YOU CANNOT DISCUSS THE ACTUAL VIDEO YOU CHOOSE TO SUBMIT FOR RESA WITH YOUR FACILITATOR/MENTOR)
  • Using the Teaching and Learning Context Form, p. 10 of the RESA Guidebook and Video Commentary and Reflection Form, p. 12-13 of RESA Guidebook to direct your discussion of the practice videos with your facilitator/mentor.
  • Reviewing the RESA guidebook paying attention to the seven Domains, p. 14 - 21 and the Technical Reference Guide, p. 30-34 
IMPORTANT RESA DATES
  • CORE Registration Opens - August 1, 2018
  • RESA Submission System Opens - October 15, 2018       
  • CORE Registration Deadline - Nov. 15, 2018
  • Lesson Reflection Deadline - Jan. 11, 2019
  • RESA Score Reports Released - May 3, 2019
 
RESA LESSON REFLECTION REQUIREMENTS
Teachers submit 3 items:
  1. Teaching and Learning Context Form p. 10
  2. Video Recording of the Lesson p. 11
  3. Video Commentary and Reflection Form p. 12-13
 
RESA FACILITATOR RULES
Things Your Facilitator CAN do :
  • Register Resident Educators who are eligible to take the RESA in Ohio's CORE database.
  • Engage Resident Educators in formative experiences in preparation for the RESA and, more importantly, a career of reflective practice.
  • Review the RESA Guidebook with Resident Educators to help them understand the requirements of the Lesson Reflection and how it will be scored.
  • Ask open-ended questions to deepen understanding of the specific areas of the assessment without editing or leading Resident Educators in a specific direction.
  • Examine Score Report results with Resident Educators, using assessor feedback along with the Lesson Reflection domains and the candidates' submissions to discuss areas for improvement. 
Things Your Facilitator CANNOT do:
  • Help identify specific units or videos to include as submission evidence.
  • Develop or edit Resident Educators' video evidence or Video Commentary and Reflection Form responses.
  • Provide feedback on how to change actual submissions and point Resident Educators in a different direction from what has been submitted.
  • Use candidate credentials to log in to the RESA Submission System.
  • Share Resident Educators' actual video evidence and Video Commentary and Reflection Form responses with others.
 
MEETING CANCELLATIONS DUE TO WEATHER OR OTHER CIRCUMSTANCES
RE sessions will be held as scheduled unless there are extreme conditions that interfere. This would be a rare occurrence. If a session is cancelled or changed, participants will be notified by email from the ESC of Lake Erie West by 2 p.m. so be sure to check your email prior to leaving school.
