Donna Hunt

Tern Donna Hunt
Having garnered an excellent national reputation, we are proud that Donna Hunt developed her calling chops at Swingin' Tern Dances. Calling contras with interesting choreography and variations, Donna is known for utilizing clear, concise instructions to minimize teaching time and maximize dance time. Donna infuses the dancers with confidence, regardless of their skill level, and she enjoys guiding new dancers and challenging experienced ones.
It was natural for Doug to ask Donna to call for his dance.  They've been BFFs since the early years of Swingin' Tern and were Best Woman and Mantron of Honor at each other's wedding.

Coracree

Tern Coracree stage

Coracree melds a transatlantic mix of traditional Celtic, Old-time, European, and original music with a playful, improvisational style.  The band's multi-instrumental, rhythmic, driving, groovy, jazzy music combining with their unique connection with the dancers, makes for a fantastic dance experience all around!

Jane Rothfield has performed for many years in both the USA and Scotland and England playing Old Time and Celtic style music with her strong driving and swingy style of fiddling. As a dance fiddler, Jane has played at dances throughout the US and at numerous festivals. She plays with multiple bands and has received awards for her original tunes.

Allan Carr is originally from Scotland and has deep roots in Celtic Music both as an instrumentalist and as an award winning traditional singer. Allan combines his Celtic musical sense with his 25+ years of playing Old Time music with wife Jane Rothfield, to contribute to the unique sound of Coracree: His double bass playing provides the "bottom" that moves the dancers and he has been known to taking bass solo's with the band!

Bill Quern is a dance musician, tune-smith and dancer. His father filled the house with instruments for his ten offspring to explore, so Bill developed into a multi-instrumentalist playing fiddle, banjo, melodeon, mandolin, and harmonica. He plays for Contra, Square dances, English Country, and French dances, teaches Morris and Scandinavian dancing. He plays for Philadelphia's clogging group "FiddleKicks" and is the foreman of the Kingsessing Morris Men.

Sarah Gowan plays guitar and English concertina in multiple bands. Sarah performs with FiddleKicks Cloggers. She teaches clogging, and traditional couple dancing and has a solid background in vintage dance. Sarah and her husband Bill Quern are tune composers and recently released a tune book of 70 of their original tunes called "Dancing Between the Notes".

Tern Doug Heacock
Come celebrate Doug's birthday and his 35 years with Swingin' Tern Dances.  Doug was a founder of Swingin' Tern in 1984 and is the only volunteer to continuously serve the dance for all 35 years.  He has done the publicity [originally with typewriter and press-type, more recently with social media] for the entire 35 years.

Tern Doug Heacock Brian
This dance is sponsored by Doug Heacock and husband Brian Buckley.  Both sessions are free but a donation to Swingin' Tern Dances will be greatly appreciated.
