Legislative Update Week 4
No hearings for HB 2115 & SB 56
Hearing set for HB 2026

HB 2115 and SB 56 caused quite a stir in the statehouse this week for not only our profession but for a variety of professions and businesses. The hearings for the bills were cancelled to allow both legislators and interested parties to learn more about the software company, TransparentBusiness . After hearing directly from the software company, many questions still are unanswered. However, it is clear that the bill intended to only regulate work completed on a computer and for projects that are billed hourly. At this time, many businesses, chambers of commerce and professional association organizations still oppose the bill. AIA Kansas will continue to monitor these bills.

A hearing for HB 2026 , Enacting the Fire Sprinkler Industry Act, has been scheduled for Tuesday, February 12th at 1:30pm. AIA Kansas staff are working with our Governmental Affairs Committee members to determine if we need to provide an official position and testimony on this bill. Please share your thoughts or concerns about HB 2026 with Terry via email or phone (785) 357-5308.
