PROGRAM NEWS
Increasing staff capacity by addressing data & evaluation needs
We are thrilled to announce the hiring of Steph Shelton as our new Cancer Data Specialist -- a brand-new position that fills an important gap on the WI CCC Program team.
"
Steph's data-driven mindset and public health training are the perfect combination to increase our evaluation and data capacity," said Program Director Sarah Kerch. "Ultimately, Steph's contribution to our team will help us improve the kinds of support we can provide to members of the WI Cancer Council."
For the past three years, Steph worked for the Wisconsin Department of Health Services as a budget and policy analyst, analyzing long-term care Medicaid data for program evaluation.
Steph recently earned her master's degree in Population Health Sciences from UW-Madison, with a focus on health services research. Her
master's thesis looked at adaptive functioning, healthcare access, and utilization.
"I am thrilled to do my part in reducing the burden of cancer in Wisconsin with such a dedicated, collaborative team," Steph said.
While not at work, Steph loves spending time outdoors and has a personal goal of section hiking the entirety of the Florida Trail.
Please say hello to Steph at the 2018 WI Cancer Summit on Nov. 15!

2019 Marketplace Open Enrollment Begins!
How to support enrollment efforts, and what you need to know
Open enrollment for the Affordable Care Act marketplace started November 1!
As predicted, health insurance premiums in the marketplace have stabilized this year --decreasing by an average of about 4% -- and health insurance options are available in every part of Wisconsin.
Here are some key points you should know about the 2019 open enrollment period:
- Open enrollment is only 6 weeks long! For coverage that starts January 1, consumers must renew or sign up by December 15, 2018.
- More than 80% of Wisconsinites receive discounts to help pay for health insurance when they shop through Healthcare.gov.
- Insurance plans purchased through the marketplace are required to cover all essential health benefits-such as doctor visits, hospital stays, and prescription drugs-and free preventive care such as cancer screenings. Other types of plans available this year outside of the marketplace (short-term/limited duration, and association health plans) may not include these benefits.
- Many FREE resources are available to help consumers sign up for plans and answer insurance questions. Consumers can call 2-1-1 or schedule an appointment online at coveringwi.org/enroll.
