What’s the difference between antioxidants, polyphenols and phyto-chemicals?

Strictly speaking, these three are NOT inter-changeable terms and it’s not a simple cut-and-dried issue. For those of us who are still a little confused, there’s help in sorting out the different terminologies from respected dietician Catherine Saxelby here.

MrConsumer specializes in spotting packaging tricks such as mouse print: small, low-contrast or otherwise obscured text designed to fool the consumer into thinking a product is something it is not. He spotted this very bland, normal looking bottle of olive oil available at Target. It's just olive oil, right?
The search is on to determine whether stolen Syrian olive oil has been imported into Spain under the guise of 'Made in Turkey.' A criminal investigation could be coming.
Olives add salty, bright flavor to a variety of dishes, including slow-cooked fish, spicy seafood cocktail, braised chicken, and salads.

The Institute of Services for the Agricultural and Food Market (ISMEA) has released data indicating that the volumes produced during the current olive oil crop season in Italy have reached record lows, amounting to 185,000 tons (slightly above the 182,000 tons of 2016).

During a royal engagement today, Kate Middleton revealed a particularly interesting tidbit about her young daughter: she loves olives.

A prospective industry ambassador?
A consumer alleges Lindsay Naturals Spanish Manzanilla Olives are falsely advertised as having no preservatives. Sheryl Newman, individually and on behalf of all others similarly situated, filed a complaint on Jan. 15 in the St. Louis Circuit Court against Bell-Carter Foods LLC alleging that the California corporation violated the Missouri Merchandising Practices Act.

The allegation is that the claim is false as the product contains lactic acid.

More than a hundred scientists and researchers, including doctors, nutritionists, agronomists, food technologists, and chemists have been involved with the Hellenic Oxidative Stress Observatory over the last six years, waging the “battle” to inform and evaluate agrifood products and identify the valuable antioxidants that prevent dozens of diseases. At a recent tasting event of Greek and foreign olive oil in Thessaloniki, the Greek Observatory presented the beneficial properties of Greek olive oil that act against premature aging.
Interned Italians cook in the Fort Missoula kitchen. The Peter Fortune Memorial Collection, Courtesy of the Historical Museum at Fort Missoula Collections.
It started with suet. Some say camp administrators decided that Italian internees should cook with suet instead of olive oil to cut costs. Others say lower ranking internees, who had been crew members on the ships they were taken from, suspected that former officers were getting olive oil while they were stuck with beef fat. Either way, tensions hit a breaking point when a group of angry internees charged into the kitchen.

No doubt many of us would join them!
