Inspire 2019
Inspire 2019 was a powerful 72 hours of high-impact education and networking by the peaceful waters of Sanibel Island, FL. The event's overarching theme revolved around how to take action in order to achieve goals. Attendees headed home with renewed relationships and the information and tools necessary to foster their businesses and strengthen partnerships.

CEO's Corner
At this year's Inspire Conference we shared more of our vision to deliver high-impact content and opportunities to our community. We are a low cost, high value resource for our members, and are determined to make it count in new areas as we build the new RSPA together. We are working closely with industry players and there are opportunities for you to contribute and benefit. Opportunities available to RSPA members:
  • Help build a framework around what factors reflect a strong VAR business model and develop community benchmarks through the Target Operating Model.
  • Acquire an accurate representation of the IT spend in the retail technology community with the Merchant IT Spend Survey and see the opportunities available to becoming an MSP. Ask our Market Research & Chief Strategist, Marie Perry, how you can get involved.
  • Educate your sales team through our Outsourced Sales Education. Our Sales Strength Coach, Dave Menton, will tailor his expertise driven education to fit your business type. If interested or need more information, send Dave an email.
RSPA Scholarship Program Applications are AVAILABLE!
The 2019-2020 scholarship applications are now available! Employees, children and grandchildren of all eligible reseller members are encouraged to apply for this scholarship to help ease the costs associated with higher education. The RSPA Scholarship Program has awarded more than $2 million to families of RSPA reseller member companies and that tradition continues in 2019.

Scholarship recipients of one year may re-apply for additional scholarships in succeeding years, up to a total of four awards. Applications do not have to be made in consecutive years; however, the student must re-apply each year he or she wishes to be considered. To apply or learn more, click here!

Inspire 2019
Anna Grieco of the W2W Community, attended Inspire for the first time. Her thoughts on the event, "It was a privilege to attend Inspire 2019 and to share thoughts and ideas with the brightest of minds in the reseller community. Spending a few days in an intimate setting with Presidents and C-Level Executives was not only a great way of networking but also gave me priceless insights into their needs from a vendor, such as myself. It was also quite empowering to attend break-out sessions with some of the industry's most knowledgeable women."

Security Tip
Patching is a critical part of maintaining secure systems. New vulnerabilities are discovered every day that require regular patching to keep attackers out. You should have a written plan that outlines for each component who's responsible for patching and how often patches will be deployed. Don't forget to includes things like operating system updates, the POS software, 3rd party software like Java, and the firmware of network devices.

Ransomware
At this year's Inspire Conference I spoke on "Fighting Criminals." Criminals have had a dramatic effect upon our industry both in the area of breaches and ransomware. A recent massive ransomware attack infected over 75,000 computers in 99 countries. The vulnerability that allowed the ransomware to be applied was unpatched Microsoft Software. The malware, called "WannaCry" locks out users and threatens to destroy data unless the ransom is paid. This is clear criminal conduct that will continue to evolve and threaten end users.
