BE BAY-WISE
Most Village residents live within a half-mile of a storm drain, stream or river. Nearly all of those waterways eventually drain into the Chesapeake Bay. What we do to maintain our own landscapes can affect the health of our local waterways (drainage ditches, streams and rivers), the Chesapeake Bay and our environment. By changing a few simple landscape practices, you and your family can make a difference in your own back yard! Go to http://www.baywise.umd.edu/ to learn more.

Although yard waste collection won't officially resume until April 1, residents can recycle leaves and other yard waste items (such as those spiky gumballs from the street "Sweet Gum" trees) by placing them in the green bin provided by the County for food scraps, in paper bags, or open trash cans, and take them out curbside on your recycling day.

PROPER STORAGE OF TRASH AND RECYCLING BINS
Are you storing your trash and recycling bins properly? Take a look at where your cans and bins are located. Are they in your driveway or in the front of your home? Recycling, food scrap bins and trash cans must be stored out of view from the street and neighboring properties at all times, except when placed out for pick up the evening prior to your collection day, as per County Code and the Harper's Choice Village Covenants.
Please do not store any cans/bins in the front of the house, on a front porch or in a driveway. If cans are stored outside of your home, they must be shielded from view by landscaping or an enclosure previously approved by the Architectural Committee. An  Exterior Alteration Application  form may be used to apply for approval. By keeping your property tidy and cans and bins out of view, you help keep Harper's Choice the BEST Choice!

BULK ITEM & SCRAP METAL COLLECTION
If you have large items taking up space in your home that really need to go to the landfill, don't pay to have them hauled away. Call the County or go online to schedule a bulk item pick-up, curbside, in front of your home. Up to four items per household per collection; any items too large to be collected by two workers will be tagged and left for the homeowner to remove. For a list of items that will not be collected or to schedule a pick-up, call 410-313-6444 or visit HowardCountyBulkPickup.org.
