Fall Edition                                                                                       November, 2016

THIS MONTH AT D&J...
As D&J finishes up the very busy summer months, we find ourselves enjoying the beautiful colors of the fall leaves and cooler months.  Along with a new season of Cavaliers basketball, and the Cleveland Indians in the World Series, we have had a lot to celebrate this past month!
LEED CERTIFICATION

Dunlop & Johnston, Inc. is proud to share that another one of our projects has achieved LEED certification.  Designed by Domokur Architects, the rehabilitation of Olson Center at Kent State University was a 27,882 SF renovation of their existing facilities and 3,676 SF building addition.  This project was particularly challenging as it was multi-phased and to be completed while working in an active dormitory building.

Our company strives to incorporate "green" principals into all our projects.  In doing so, our team encourages the recycling and salvage of all construction, demolition, and land clearing waste whenever possible.  We utilize recycled dumpster services on all construction sites regardless of the project's sustainability requirements.

It is our intention to deliver sustainable and energy-efficient projects which will benefit our clients and environment well into the future, and we are proud to have completed this project for the Kent State University students.
CEA 100 YEAR CELEBRATION

Lee Malloy's family - Joan Malloy, Pam Blair, and grandson Jason, along with Bill, Eleonore, Carla & Randy Spencer
of D&J celebrating CEA's 100 Years

We would like to congratulate the Construction Employers Association (CEA) as they celebrate their 100th year!  Last month our team attended the 100th anniversary celebration gala where attendees honored the many companies in the Northeast Ohio market that helped to shape the landscape of our region.  Today CEA continues to serve this market with their 130 contractor members and 30 affiliate members.

CEA presented Hall of Fame Awards to several prominent construction professionals from Northeast Ohio, including Dunlop & Johnston, Inc.'s very own Lee Malloy.   Lee was employed with D&J for 46 years, beginning in 1955 as a Project Superintendent.  He quickly moved up the ranks taking on the roles of General Superintendent, Vice President, President, and in 1987, Chairman of the Board and Secretary.  Lee was an industry pioneer in the construction arena and served CEA as Director and Vice President, and was also active on many committees.  Lee understood that beyond the actual building materials used in construction (steel, concrete, wood, etc.) to build a solid and successful foundation in the industry, "building relationships" was a much more important component.  Lee gave a hand to many hardworking subcontractors on their way up in the industry.  It was this trust and solid relationships that led to multiple friendships as well as repeat business and clients for life.

It was with great pleasure that Dunlop & Johnston, Inc. was able to honor Lee Malloy and support CEA's mission to promote the interests of quality contractors for commercial, institutional and civil construction at this wonderful event.

VILLAGE OF WOODMERE RIBBON CUTTING

On Wednesday, October 12th, the Village of Woodmere hosted a ribbon cutting for their new Service Center building.  The design team for this project included Calvin Singleton of Calvin M. Singleton & Associates, as well as Ed Hren from Chagrin Valley Engineering, Ltd. as the Owner's Representative.  Dunlop & Johnston, Inc. teamed with Kyle Jones of KBJ Construction to complete this Service Center which consists of a 5,500 SF service garage and attached offices.  Shown above is the very proud Mayor of Woodmere, Charles E. Smith with several committee members at the ribbon cutting ceremony.
