PTSA Update

Connect With Us
Lake Nona Middle School

This is week #14 of the 2018-2019 school year and the last week before our Knights take their well earned Thanksgiving break (November 19-23; the campus will be closed that entire week). We will be distributing second nine weeks progress reports on Friday, November 16th. If you have a student attending Lake Nona, please be sure to review their progress with them before classes resume on Monday, November 26th.

I would like to remind our school community that while Veterans Day officially falls on the 11th of every November (the anniversary of the signing of the armistice, which ended the World War I hostilities), it will be observed across America on Monday, November 12th. If you know of someone who has worn the uniform, or pass a military service member this week, kindly take a moment to say thank you. You see, they have taken the oath to look out for all of us and our many blessed freedoms.

Make it a great week and please do not forget about the Teach-In and PTSA meeting - both on Wednesday - two very important events for our school!

In Knights Honor,

Stephanie R. Jackson, M. Ed.
Principal, Lake Nona Middle School

This Wednesday: Teach-In

Community Support
Knight Riders

Sixth grader John Ellis was surprised with a new bike this week from Mr. Rosado.

John Ellis and his new bike with Assistant Principal Rosado

Andrew Garcia was also surprised by Mrs. Jackson, our principal, with a new bike. Bikes are the best transportation for getting to school each morning. Congratulations Andrew.

* The two bikes were donated by a wonderful LNMS supporter and we are very appreciative for their kindness in helping our young Knights!

Knights Melt Cancer Away
Well done and thank you NJHS!!

Two Saturdays ago, members of the LNMS National Junior Honor Society walked the track from 1:00-10:00 PM in order to raise money for the American Cancer Society and cancer research. This 9-hour constant trek around the track signified someone's journey in fighting cancer. The NJHS raised over $400.00 to support this cause with the theme "melting cancer away" by selling snow cones and cold water. We are super proud of them!

Knight Veterans
Veterans Day (Observed) is Monday, November 12

* U.S. Air Force assigned to the U.S. Army (Combat Weather)
* Technical Sergeant
* "Veterans Day is one of many days when sisters-in-arms and brothers-in-arms consider our sacrificed time, friends, family, health in the service of our truly exceptional country for the purposes of peace."

Lynette Munich - Curriculum Resource Teacher
U.S. Air Force

* Served 8 years: 4 active and 4 inactive in the U.S. Air Force Reserve as an Information Management Specialist.
* Stationed in Lackland AFB in San Antonio, Texas, Keesler AFB in Biloxi, MS and Holloman AFB in Alamogordo, NM

Omayra Cordova - School Clerk
U.S. Air Force

"I was a Senior Airman in the United States Air Force. It is hard for me to put into words what Veterans Day means to me. Honor, sacrifice, hope, and freedom. It's a day to remember and honor the men and women who've we lost, those who returned broken, and also grateful for those who are still alive and well."

Dia de los Muertos

Projects El dia de los muertes y las pinatas

Ms. Oms had students in her Spanish classes celebrate with painted faces and pinatas. The skull has a uniquely positive meaning in Dias de los Muertos, very different from the skeletons and ghosts of Halloween. The multi-day holiday is an opportunity for families and friends to gather, pray for, honor, celebrate, and remember those friends and family members who have died.

Knight Vital Signs

Making sense of the chart: We only issue progress reports and report cards 8X per year. (Second quarter progress reports will be distributed next Friday, November 16th.) However, the ProgressBook system OCPS offers allows families to keep up with student results at any time. The chart simply shows that in recent weeks, the number of times LNMS families have logged into the ProgressBook system is considerably below the count for total student enrollment. This is one broad indicator as to whether or not the system is being maximized.

Note: The ProgressBook system will be offline from time to time for maintenance. Such was the case this past weekend. These are only brief interruptions seldom found during the entire school year. Please utilize this helpful tool if you have a student enrolled at Lake Nona Middle.

Knight Athletics

Lake Nona boys volleyball remains unstoppable with an undefeated record of 4-0. They have yet to allow a team into three sets; defeating all of their opponents in only two. Keep working hard gentlemen and keep your eyes on the prize!

Our Lady Knights volleyball team suffered a devastating loss on Monday against a tough Renaissance Charter of Hunter's Creek team, but bounced back and beat Walker on Wednesday in just two sets.

* The last two regular season games are away next week on Monday and Wednesday against South Creek and Freedom.
