New State Legislative Resources & WH&LA Action Day April 10
January 31, 2019

Dear WH&LA Lodging Members:

Today we have two new state-level resources we would like to share with you, and one announcement on our 2019 Action Day.

2019/20 WH&LA Legislative Directory
As January marks the beginning of a new two-year state legislative session, following the November elections, and there have been numerous changes to who is in what role in state government, the WH&LA has created a handy new 2019/20 Legislative Directory that members can use to get contact information for state and federal legislators for our state, the legislators who serve on key committees of interest to our issues, and the new and pending cabinet Secretaries leading key state Agencies. Please feel free to retain this Directory in it's electronic format or print it out to keep where you can access it anytime: 2019/20 Legislative Directory.

January, 2019 Edition of Local Government Revenue Options
Wisconsin's Legislative Fiscal Bureau publishes this Informational Paper every other year, and they have just released their 2019 Paper, which covers the limited revenue authorities provided to local governments (beyond local property taxes):
  • County sales tax
  • Municipal Wheel Tax
  • Municipal Room Tax
  • Local Exposition District Taxes (for the Wisconsin Center District)
  • Local Professional Baseball Park District Taxes (for the Milwaukee Brewers)
  • Local Professional Football Stadium District Taxes (for the Green Bay Packers)
  • Premier Resort Area Tax
Each tax is outlined, plus charts of available data is shown for the 2017 calendar year (important footnote on the last page: some room tax revenue data reflects just the revenue the municipality keeps vs the gross incoming room tax revenue). You can access this paper here.

WH&LA 2019 Action Day
We have just set the date for WH&LA's 2019 Action Day, which will be Wednesday, April 10 at the Hilton Monica Terrace in Madison. While this may seem far away, please note the date on your calendar, and watch for more information to come out in a few weeks. This event starts mid-morning at the hotel, includes issue updates and information on meeting with legislators, and ends with scheduled meetings for you with your legislators at the Capitol, having you back on the road by mid or late afternoon. Ask anyone who attended in the past - it's a great experience!

Thank you for your continued interest and support!

Best,
Trisha
