NIPFC Permanency Blast
February 13th , 2019

Greetings!

We have moved!  At least our web page has.     We are now located at www.familypermanency.org  Our previous search materials, podcasts, blasts, trainer bios and fees are on the site, and we are in the process of restoring our vast archive of resources that you have used so frequently in the past.  As we continue to build our website out, we will have new features in store, so stay tuned!  For more details about the changes, see below.

If you wish to view Kevin Campbell's site, he is working on debuting www.familyseeing.org and www.familyfinding.org.

We have plenty of content for you in this first full blast of 2019.  We release our 7th episode in our "Let's Have a Conversation" podcast series in which Director Bob Friend converses with Kim Stevens of NACAC about her work with youth and adults with lived experience in the foster care system, and how that work informs her practice as well as organizational practice.

We share the exciting announcement that Carol J. Bishop, LMFT Statewide Adoption Policy Director, Regional Executive Director at Seneca Family of Agencies received an Adoptions Excellence Award in 2018, honoring her work which has positively affected the lives of thousands of children, youth and adoptive families during her fifty-four years working in child welfare!!  Congratulations and well deserved, Carol!

We share current employment opportunities with Kinnect.  Our previous podcast "A Story of Partnership" highlighted the work between Kinnect and the Foster and Adoptive Care Coalition.  Their expansion continues to address the impact of the opioid crisis in Ohio via better family engagement and urgent attention to children and youth's needs to avoid entering or languishing in the foster care system.

We share a modification to a recently shared article "Overcoming Barriers to Making Meaningful Reasonable Efforts Findings"  from Judge Len Edwards.

We include the Winter Volume of "insights" from the California Child Welfare Co-Investment Partnership, detailing progress on California's Continuing Care Reform and providing some thoughts and analysis on the Family First Prevention Services Act.

We provide the Kempe Center's recently released call for Proposals from the International Conference on Innovations in Family Engagement.  This conference will be held in San Diego, CA from November 19-22.  We do not expect any polar vortex episodes in San Diego, so please consider submitting a proposal to present your good work at this conference, and mark your calendars now!  Also please distribute this announcement to your colleagues!

Look for more content soon, including an article and a new podcast!

Modifications: Overcoming Barriers to Making Meaningful Reasonable Efforts Findings
"Certain changes in juvenile court practice can lead to more meaningful reasonable efforts findings. Granted, there are many barriers that prevent judges from making these findings. This article explains what reasonable efforts findings the judge must make, some of the most challenging barriers that prevent the judge from making these findings, and a solution that could make reasonable efforts findings more meaningful.

"Reasonable efforts" findings are judicial rulings that the child welfare agency (the agency) has or has not provided appropriate services at different times during a child welfare case. According to federal and state laws judges must make reasonable efforts findings at least three distinct times during the case.[1]"
