Good Earth
More Than a Store

Good Earth is a locally owned produce and garden center that specializes in providing the freshest and tastiest local fruits, veggies, clean meats, eggs and dairy from local farmers. We also support local bakers, families and artisans by selling amazing breads, jarred goods, dried goods, soaps, candles and oh so much more! Over the years, our faithful customers have repeatedly requested non-local produce that cannot be grown in our area, so we provide these products too. You can get almost anything else on-line or at the big box stores, but get the freshest produce and most beautiful plants right here at Good Earth. Now that fall is upon us our store will be stocked with seasonal produce such as squashes, greens, apples and citrus, and the greenhouse will boast dozens of varieties of heirloom pumpkins and gourds as well as mums of every size and color. Come see us!!

It's nothing like an egg...but we love it anyway!
Cynthia F Catts,  RD, LD

A member of the nightshade family of veggies, eggplant is not only delish but is an awesome substitute for meat in most dishes, as it has a toothsome, chewy texture. Plus, it has great nutrition benefits. Eggplant is low calorie, provides fiber, potassium, manganese and vitamins B1, B6 and folate. It's also a good source of phytonutrients and flavonoids, which have antioxidant properties and help neutralize free radicals, in turn lessening oxidative damage to cells. Eggplant is best eaten cooked. When choosing, look for eggplant that is heavy for its size, firm, with a smooth, unblemished skin and a bright green cap and stem. Create quick easy ratatouille by stir frying or baking cubed eggplant, zucchini, bell pepper, tomatoes, chopped onion and garlic in olive oil (we have every ingredient!!). Stir fry til soft or bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.
The Farmer's Market
October is over, but pumpkin season is just beginning!

You may breathe a sigh of relief: the time for carving pumpkins is now behind us, but the time for eating pumpkins is NOW! We have a plethora of pleasurable pumpkin products to please your palate this November, and you will certainly want to try them all. In fact, our pumpkin promotion team has put together a carefully curated strategy to ensure that you will be able to incorporate this most illustrious of winter squashes into every meal of your day. For breakfast, you have several options. Waffles with pumpkin spice syrup will warm you from your nose to your toes (try some in your coffee as well), or opt for fresh biscuits slathered with pumpkin pecan honey butter. Not sweet enough? You'll be tempted by our freshly baked pumpkin cheesecake rolls. They're a perfect size to share with the whole family, but we won't judge you if you don't! For lunch we're getting creative with pumpkin butter. If you've never tried it with peanut butter on True Bread's fresh wheat bread, go make a sandwich right now. Sub cream cheese for the peanut butter for a slightly more savory snack. For dinner, we have a real treat: pumpkin and sausage bisque, made fresh in our very own kitchen! Caramelized onions, Italian seasoned sausage, fall spices, and a splash of cream make this soup a true fall treat from start to finish. Plus, it makes dinner a snap, so you can have plenty of time to enjoy dessert! Of course, for the energized home bakers, we have pie pumpkins galore, whose flavor and freshness outshine their canned cousins any day. However, for the rest of us, we offer freshly baked and homemade pumpkin spice cake and pumpkin cheesecake. They make a fabulous contribution for your next fall potluck or dinner party, or try them as a meal replacement, eaten in bed while you watch Gilmore Girl reruns.

Happy Fall!

There's nothing wrong with being a pansy!

Today we take a moment to pay due homage to the queen of cool weather gardening, the pansy. Pumpkins tend to steal the show in October, and in a few short weeks Christmas trees will be stepping in front and center to replace them, but throughout the frantic flurry of fluctuating festivities, the pansy remains a seasonal constant in our garden center. Their cheery, bright faces just can't be beat, especially as the days get shorter and the skies seem cloudier. From now through spring you will find our shelves well stocked with flats of pansies in several varieties and a multitude of colors, both blotched and blotch-free. Buy them by the 4-pack if you just need a little touch of color here and there, or take them home by the flat for larger home landscaping projects. If you are looking for a specific color or variety, or a quantity that we don't have in stock, don't hesitate to speak to a team member about a special order! We will do our best to accommodate your needs, large or small. Pansies do beautifully planted as borders, around mailboxes, in hanging baskets, or in conjunction with ornamental cabbages, grasses, and other fall flowers in combination planters. If you have an empty pot at home that could use a little autumn love, bring it in and let us help you pick out the perfect flowers and foliage with which to fill it. We'll even plant it for you! The best part about pansies (and maybe also the south), is that these cool weather flowers will persevere through winter to give you show-stopping displays in the spring. In fact, now is the best time to plant these flowers, along with other fall and spring bloomers such as snapdragons and violas, so they have plenty of time to set healthy roots while the temperatures are nice and mild. Christmas trees are coming (don't forget to save this coupon!), but for now- enjoy some fall flowers!
