Join us for this seminar on basic principles for parenting which prepares children and teens for challenging times.

Whether you are a parent or grandparent of a young child or a teen, you are already aware of our contrary culture that is constantly pushing and pulling at our next generation.  And while statistics show that 85% of our teens are leaving the church upon graduation from high school, many of us still say, "That will never happen to me".

The decisions we make today and how we relate to our kids in this confusing culture can make a difference!   Whether you have a teen who is struggling, a tween who is doing just fine, or a little one that will one day be a teen, this seminar is for you!

Discipleship and Education
by David Sweet

The world seems hopelessly lost.  But if we fail to obey because of discouragement, we forfeit blessing.

Many years ago Terry Strawn, (one of our security guys, pictured below, left) was active in his little church in Lytton Springs, Texas.  A fishing and hunting partner he knew since Jr. High, Bud (pictured below, right, with his wife Rosie), lived lost and was lost.  He  was a heavy drinker, and scoffed at the idea of going to church.  These two friends went fishing and hunting together, but one man was a believer and the other man was not.  Terry brought up spiritual matters and his Bud's need for Christ, but Bud had no interest in it.

Whenever Bud's daughter spent the night with Terry's daughter, she would go to church the next day with Terry's family.  She heard the gospel and met Christ.  Then Terry's family invited Bud's son to church and he heard the gospel and was saved.  And this unchurched, scoffing dad had to find out what it was all about so he went and confronted the pastor.
In talking to the pastor Bud heard the gospel and was saved--by God's grace.  His wife was also eventually saved and they became active in the little church, working with youth.  Some years later Bud followed a call to pastor and has been pastoring that same church for a couple of decades--leading men and women to faith in Christ.

It began with an invitation to church.  We have folks in our church who started their journey with Christ because of someone's invitation.  Cards, like the one pictured above,   will be available Sunday morning.  Take a few and use them to help invite others to church!

Don't enjoy eternal life without helping someone else find it also!
Student Ministry
by Greg Burney

Student ministry is going well! We continue to see solid growth. We are still up significantly from last years attendance trends. God is working in the hearts and minds of our youth! We are seeing students coming to Christ, and students taking their faith seriously and digging deeper. Thank you for your support and prayers as we continue to pursue God's leading for HHSM.

Our students will have Bible study opportunities as well as service opportunities over the next several weeks! Bible studies were supposed to start last Sunday but I came down with a nasty cold. So we will jump into our bible studies this coming Sunday! Super Sports Camp is coming up quick! Students are encouraged to take part in leading Super Sports which is a spring break camp for K-5th grade students. We teach basic sports skills as well as teach the Gospel to the kids who attend!

Mark your calendars! The Backyard BBQ will be in May this year! We believe moving the BBQ the spring will have a great impact on the event. This helps spread out our major event weekends and gives us a fun new tradition for closing out the school year! We are looking forward to Backyard BBQ 2019!

Important Dates:
February 17, March 3 - Bible Studies
March 10 - Laser Tag Tournament (at church - Free!)
March 17 - Mandatory Super Sports Meeting
March 18-22 - Super Sports Camp!
May 5 - Backyard BBQ
Children's Ministry
by Ethan Graves

Yesterday we had our first Children's Worship in the Family Ministry room, D-213. The Lord blessed us with an awesome morning! Feel free to come look in the room next week if you would like to see what a blessing it is for our children to utilize this space. Our lesson yesterday for Bible Life and Children's Worship was about the Passover. We learned the significance of the Passover Lamb and how Jesus is our Passover Lamb who died to take away our sins. Each week we also highlight our 20% to Our Neighbors and the Nations partners. We discussed our church's ministry in the Kyle Prison lead by Tim Snowden.

Should you give your kids an allowance? Mark your calendars for our next parent equipping event on Sunday 2/17 from 4:30 to 5:50. We will be discussing how to teach our children wise money management. Join Greg and I in the High School room for an afternoon of awesome discipleship!

Heroes Camp will be here soon, and I am super excited about all the Lord has in store for this year! We have a renewed vision guiding everything we do. Camp has an intentional schedule, meaningfully fun activities, and Bible focused teaching. We cannot wait to see the Gospel transform lives this summer and allow our campers to have the most fun of any camp experience. We would love to have you join us as a part of the Heroes Camp Worker Team. To join the team, please fill out an application and turn it in to me. Feel free to call/text (812-786-0038) or email ( [email protected]) with any questions. Visit  www.hayshills.com/heroescampworkers to learn more!

CLC News
by Mitzi Hudgins

We have been having fun and learning at the Christian Learning Center!  This week I would love to introduce you to the two teachers of our Caterpillars classroom, Lauren Milam and Katie Caton!  The children in the Caterpillars classroom were 14-20 months old when we entered the school year, and they have already changed so much in just a few months!  They are very curious, love to paint, play, explore, and sing!  One of their favorite songs to sing is "Jesus Loves Me".  They are also such great listeners during our chapel time, and they are learning about how much God loves them!

In chapel time, we enjoyed another visit with Pastor Ethan last week.  He taught another lesson on miracles and this time he shared about how Jesus walked on water and calmed the seas.  Yesterday in chapel a lesson was taught from Ephesians 6:11, "Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes."  As we explained the different pieces of armor, we dressed a child in the pieces.  The children were excellent listeners and learned that God gives us the weapons and armor we need to stand strong.  Also, that it is very important to put on our spiritual armor every day, otherwise we will be weak and easily defeated!

May you be blessed this week!

From Pastor Aaron

We will be celebrating the Lord's Supper in our services on Sunday. I look forward to rejoicing with you in the grace of our Savior, Jesus Christ.

6pm Sunday evening, we will gather for a members' meeting to hear from representatives of Jackson Galloway and discuss our next steps in preparing for continued growth at Hays Hills.

As we talked with various architectural firms, Jackson Galloway rose to the top because of their vast experience, sterling reputation, and the depth of services they provide.

We are beginning to feel the pinch of growth not only in our 10:45 am worship service, but also in our classroom space for bible life classes. If we vote to move forward with Jackson Galloway, they will begin to audit our existing use of space, create projections for our future growth based on current attendance trends and expected growth in our community, and through discussions with our membership and leadership provide counsel on how to best meet our needs.

These are important conversations and I pray you'll make it a priority to be in prayer regarding the matter and in attendance at the meeting.
Prayer Updates

Kris Fehrenbacher's dad in Minnesota has advanced cancer.

Scott & Becky Placke are returning to Tanzania after being stateside to attend to some family matters. Pray for safe travel, for the Tanzanian government to provide them with renewed visas, and for the Lord to fill them with a Spirit-driven strategy and energy to reach the Ngindo people.

The Indian government continues to grow more brash in its persecution of Christians. The current administration has as a published goal the removal of all Christians from the country by 2021. Pray the Lord would unseat those in power who seek to prevent the spread of the gospel. Pray for the Church to be bold in its witness regardless of the outcome of the election.
