Sad News from Alameda High School
We are heartbroken to report the death of Jessy Lopez, a 10th grade student from Alameda High School. Out of respect for the family's privacy in this very difficult time, we are not currently releasing details on the student's cause of death. Please know, however, that AHS students, staff, and family have been informed of this tragic loss, and trained staff will continue to be available to offer counseling support to any student who needs it over the coming days and weeks.
As a parent/guardian, staff member, or fellow student, we ask that you remember that students can sometimes experience deep emotional distress when another student dies. We ask that you stay alert for signs of emotional upset or crisis in your students and learn what to do if you think a young person is at risk for self harm. You can find information about talking to students about these issues on our Suicide Prevention Resources page.
Meanwhile, please see the flyer below for an event next week that focuses on teen mental health. We expect that our speaker will be able to provide valuable insights and resources for family members wanting to learn more about supporting their children.
Again our thoughts are with this young man's family and friends during this time of sadness and loss.
