Donna Visits The Van Lingen Group
There is one particular photograph hanging in the Chamber office that I am most fond of. The large framed black and white photo is of Clarence Van Lingen standing in front of his tow truck. The photo is from 1948. Clarence opened an auto body business in Torrance after serving his country as he did not want to return to the occupation of farming.

Now, celebrating their 70 th year of doing business in Torrance, the Van Lingen Group is a three generation family owned and operated business. As I sat down with Rob and Sean Van Lingen, the one characteristic trait that is evident is their passion. Rob and Sean are so proud to carry on the family business started by Grandfather Clarence and continued by their father Robert. Read more...

Air Board’s Plan to Raise Fees Threatens Our Economy and Climate Goals
California produces just 1 percent of atmospheric carbon emissions, yet global leaders and activists care about California regulations. Why is this?

It’s the same reason that California politicos insist on our unique climate regulations. Governors and legislators–here and globally–count on California’s leadership to translate into solutions applicable around the world. If it can work in California, then maybe it can transform global climate policy.

Governors Jerry Brown and Arnold Schwarzenegger staked their climate policies on the belief that a cost-effective and gradual approach will not upset consumers, destabilize markets or shock voters, but will reduce greenhouse gases released to the atmosphere consistent with projected recommendations for global carbon emission reductions. Active Shooters: Empowering the Business Community through Education
Next Friday, the Chamber's PROFS program will focus on the business community's preparedness for active shooters in the workplace. Torrance Police Department Lieutenant Jeremiah Hart will present to the group, sharing invaluable information from his years of extensive training. Lt. Hart has studied hundreds of active shooter and active threat scenarios and has trained people across the country. He often speaks to groups in the Torrance community about how to prepare and develop a plan in the event of such an emergency.

"It's important to identify steps and make a plan now, ahead of time. During critical incidents, human performance doesn't get better. It gets harder to make good decisions," states Hart. He continues, "At the TPD, we encourage a whole community approach to planning and identifying potential threats. It's so important to remember that if you see something to say something, and be sure to be aware of your surroundings and make a mental plan of what steps you will take in the event of an active threat."

The Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce invites current members of the TACC to attend the February 1st PROFS program. Seating is limited and RSVP is required. Please Click Here to RSVP .
