WORD for the Week for November 11, 2018 Twenty-Fifth Sunday After Pentecost Worship Series: "Kitchen Table Giving" Our fall stewardship theme is “Kitchen Table Giving.” It’s a metaphor symbolizing those times and places where deep conversations occur that shape our lives. From our calendar to our bills, from our work to our leisure, from our income to our philanthropic giving - all of these and other important topics often bear fruit over a table. Everyone is invited to pick up a Place Mat Packet! These place mats feature scripture, stories and essays, journal topics, discussion questions, and other interactive elements. It's yours to write or doodle on either on your own, with a friend, or in a LYFE Group. May it be a unique starting point for a deep conversation about how we steward God's resources as both individuals and as a church. Scripture Text:   Luke 16:1-13 (NRSV) STEWARDSHIP III (How do we manage money?) Reflection: This week in Sacred Journey we celebrate the extravagant generosity of Holli Roseburg. Holli’s years of work in the Hennepin nursery is a commentary on the power of relationships, the beauty of faithfulness, and the unsung offerings that make our community a warm, wonderful place for our smallest members. All are welcome to share in worship!   Question for reflection: Outside of your family (spouse, children, parents) what are the relationships you’ve cultivated the most? If you could teach a spiritual lesson on investment and management, where would you start?

Judy Zabel Kitchen Table Giving: Managing Money Worship will be led by Sanctuary Choir, Hennepin Chime, and Altar Choir Reflection: This is a confusing parable. What is Jesus really trying to say about money management when he shares this weird parable about the shrewd (some translations say "dishonest") manager? And what lessons does it have for us as we ponder how we spend, save and give?     For the Children and the Adults in Their Lives: This week, you're encouraged to use the discussion place mat (tap the link for the online version or pick up a place mat packet on campus) and read the story of Chumpi Washikiat and the Achuar people. They have absolutely no money. Is it because they don't have jobs or spend it all? No! It's because their village tribe deep in the Amazon rain forest doesn't use money. And they only just found out about it. Can you imagine that? What would living in your city be like if there was no such thing as money? What would be different? What would be the same? How would people care for each other? Kids don't often have money and if they do, it's often not very much. How do you care for people even if you don't have money? Work with an adult to come up with a list of ten ways!
