Bellaire Swim Places 2nd in the District Championship
Congratulations to the Bellaire High School swim team members who placed second in District last weekend under the leadership of Coach Kris Wingenroth. Advancing to the Regionals Swim Meet the first weekend in February are GIRLS: Avery Cooney, Tessa Diara, Reagan Draper, Annik Larsson, Lisa Lin, Nithya Narayana, Caroline Sansom, Sarah Szafranski, Alternates: Stella Dong, Giselle Garza, Isabella Frazier and Rhiannon Morris.  BOYS: Louis Diara, Clint Hart, William He, Yi Huang, Alvin Oentoro, Sam Oncken, Leo Qiu, Briggs Shiller, Joseph Wendt, Alternates: James Dai and Noah Pittman.

Bellaire captured championships in six events.  Carrie Sansom won the 200 and 500 yard freestyle, William He won the 100 yard backstroke and Briggs Shiller won the 200 and 500 yard freestyle.  The Bellaire boys 400 yard freestyle relay of  William He, Sam Oncken, Alvin Oentoro and Briggs Shiller not only won their event but also set a new HISD record.  

A new school record was set by the boys 200 yard freestyle relay team of Joey Wendt, Louis Diara, Alvin Oentoro and Briggs Shiller.  Bellaire also claimed the honor of having both Carrie Sansom and Briggs Shiller named the Outstanding Boy and Girl Swimmer of the Meet.

National Honor Society
The Bellaire Chapter of the National Honor Society invites all sophomores and juniors having a 3.7 GPA or higher to consider joining our organization.
You must have a 3.7 GPA or higher to be considered as a possible candidate. To find your GPA, go to  Naviance.com and look under "Academics."

24 Hour Plays
This is your chance to write, act or direct a play! Red Bird Productions invites you to be a part of this year's performance. Friday, February 1st participants will come together to begin the writing process, they'll work through the night and into Saturday creating original plays. Silent Film Concert
Join the Bellaire Orchestra for their annual Silent Film Concert as they provide live music for the 1922 silent horror film, Nosferatu. The concert will take place Thursday, February 7 at 6:30pm in the Bellaire HS Auditorium. #CardinalProud

Chinese New Year Celebration
Bellaire's Chinese Department celebrated the Chinese New Year today. Our student population was treated to two performances filled with culture and talent.  Shout out to Dr. Tsai for organizing this annual event. #CardinalProud
TED X Event
The Bellaire TED X Club will host a TED X event Monday evening at 5:00pm.  Admission is $1. Everyone is invited to come and hear the talks. 
Korean Club
Korean Club will be hosting a New Year celebration on Wednesday, February 6th. The celebration will be after school from 4:00 to 5:30pm in room 250. There will be snacks and refreshments along with Korean games and other New Year traditions. If you are interested in coming, please fill out this interest form below so that Korean Club can get a headcount!

College Center Announcements 

Seniors
Make sure Transcripts and SAT/ACT Scores have been successfully sent for all December and January deadlines. And check your College Portals for any missing items.
 
Please share you acceptances with the College Center. Seniors must turn in ALL Acceptances and Scholarships to the College Center. As you get Acceptances and Scholarships please turn in:

Don't forget to review the senior financial aid presentation with your parents and have a conversation about college affordability. For an online version of the presentation, please visit  tinyurl.com/yd6yduoa.
 
FINAL FAFSA Roadshow is Thursday, February 7th from 2::00 P.M. - 4:30 P.M. in the College Center. If you haven't completed FAFSA, make plans to attend!
 
Check your College Portals regularly to make sure you aren't missing any items for admissions or financial aid.
 
The last SAT for seniors is March 9th. The deadline to register is February 8th.

JUNIORS
The School Day SAT will be taking place on Tuesday, April 23rd. This will be a free test administered to all juniors to assist them with their post-high school plans. Link your College Board Account with Khan Academy (through the HUB Digital Resources) to start practicing TODAY!

Class of 2019 Graduation Date Announced
The Class of 2019's graduation ceremony will be held Saturday, June 8th at 7:00pm.  More information will be published closer to the ceremony.  Seating is open and we do not distribute tickets to students. There is plenty of room in the stadium for family and friends.
