Principal's Message
November 9,  2018
Dear Families and Friends of OLQP:
If you ever need to put a smile on your face, step into one of the Pre-Kindergarten rooms at OLQP. The Pre-K 3 & 4 program is a place of joy and wonder. Teachers Brittany Etheridge and Lorraine Garza are veterans who know the children's developmental characteristics and work with each child to ensure both social development and academic success. The advanced program is implemented with a growth mindset and is guided by the students' ability to learn more than what is traditionally expected from an early childhood program. Work done in the past by OLQP teachers in order to vertically align curriculum with a focus on math and language arts has resulted in a rigorous program. Working with teachers' aides, individual students get the attention needed to progress at their own rate. Students experience hands-on, experiential learning activities. Song, movement, STREAM, expository language, and play are incorporated. Guest speakers and field trips enrich the environment. Learning is bound together in an atmosphere of shared family values of Faith and expectations for behavior that require students to learn to share, work cooperatively, use good manners, exercise good stewardship by taking care of toys and tools, and so much more. Early childhood at OLQP is SO much more than childcare. It is a partnership with parents. It is a program administered by teachers who believe in the mission of the school and the goodness and potential in each child as a unique and unrepeatable gift from God. It is an amazing foundation upon which great things can be built.
Don't be surprised if you hear the children singing the school song written by foundress, Sr. Antoinette Peltier, so many years ago:
We are the children of Jesus and Mary as we go to God's holy school.
We work and we play and we do all for Jesus at Our Lady Queen of Peace School!
The song says it all! Thank you for being part of the mission and ministry of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic School.
Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam,
Mrs. Marianne Mechura, M.Ed.
