May has arrived - one of the busiest months for us! We've got one major event this month that is a CAN'T MISS CARNIVAL of an Awards Program! If you hadn't seen it yet, please find the flyer for the 2018 IES-APA Awards below. Money raised during the program goes to the California Planning Foundation for student scholarships in the field of Planning. The IES-APA will match dollar for dollar, up to $1000 for all monies raised through carnival games, donations, and raffle items.  Don't hesitate, register now! More info below!

AWARDS PROGRAM

Join us as we will honor all the  great projects, plans, distinguished individuals and firms worthy of being recognized for their excellence in planning in the Inland Empire! Because of all of your hard work, the Awards Jury has 19 applications to review covering 13 categories with multiple applications in the Best Practices, Comprehensive Plan- Large Jurisdiction, Comprehensive Plan-Small Jurisdiction, Communications Initiative, Transportation Planning, Healthy Communities Planning, Innovation in Green Community Planning, and Planner4Health. The program will begin with cocktails and appetizers starting at 5:00 PM and the dinner/program beginning around 6:30 PM. There will be games, prizes, and all the schmoozing your heart desires! Not to mention, our venue is ideal as it is steps away from Downtown to keep the party going after the awards!

Cost for registration is $40 for a regular ticket and students are FREE. Dinner and drinks are all included! Students, please indicate your school in the "Company Name" when you register.

REGISTRATION INFORMATION

Special Promo Codes have been provided to winners, jurors, and sponsors. Promo Codes have the following registration limits:
  • Award Winners - 1 complimentary ticket only
  • Award Jurors - 1 complimentary ticket only
  • Award Sponsors - 10 for Gold, 5 for Silver, and 2 for Public Sector
Any additional tickets may be purchased at the registration page. We accept at-the-door payments via cash or checks - please make the check payable to the "IES-APA" without the quotations. We have also secured a Square mobile credit card reader and that will be available upon check-in as well. Board members at the check-in table will be preparing receipts as necessary.

NPC19 CALL FOR SESSION REVIEWERS - MAY 4


Be an important part of the conference by peer-reviewing proposed education sessions. APA will select only the highest-rated proposals for the NPC19 education program. MIGUEL VASQUEZ AWARDED APA'S PRESIDENT AWARD AT NPC18

On the last day of the National Planning Conference (NPC18) in New Orleans, our very own Miguel Vazquez, AICP, received the APA Board President's Award for his diversity leadership work. Miguel has stated, "This award represents incremental progress within and outside of APA confinements to focus on diversity, inclusion and equity." Miguel fulfilled a bucket list item by meeting one of  his heroes, Angela Glover Blackwell, PolicyLink Founder, at the conference. Please congratulate him on a job well done!

NO-COST MAP DESIGN COURSE FROM ESRI - REGISTER FOR APRIL 18 - MAY 29 COURSE
 

Once, only cartographers made maps. Today, anyone can. With coaching from experienced cartographers and practical, hands-on exercises using ArcGIS Pro, you'll become a smarter mapmaker, ready to go beyond the defaults and make better maps.

This free, online course runs April 18 to May 29, 2018 and includes from one to two hours of content per week. Students who complete all course content earn a certificate of completion from Esri.

If your whole team makes maps, have everyone register! Learning together will help everyone gain greater cartographic insight and skills.

APA SCHOLARSHIPS: DEADLINE TO APPLY - JUNE 1
 
The APA Foundation awards scholarships to make the planning profession more diverse and accessible to those of limited means. Scholarship awards are made to students currently enrolled in degree programs in planning.

The  Judith McManus Price Scholarship and  Charles Abrams Scholarship are due by June 1, 2018.

Calling All Presenters!
 
We are pleased to announce Reach Out in Partnership with Partners for Innovative Communities, will now be accepting proposal applications for the 9th Annual National Innovative Communities Conference (NICC) . NICC will be held at the Ontario Convention Center on the 5 th and 6 th of June, 2018 and is open to all individuals throughout the United States.
 
We are seeking renowned, presenters, panelist, and keynote speakers with cutting edge and dynamic topics. Our goal is to connect ideas, leaders, communities, and resources to each other for health and wellness innovation and ignite transformation.
 
Being a presenter will bring great opportunity to connect with attendees such as: community leaders, parents, teachers, law enforcement and many more! As a presenter we ask that programs be emphasized appropriately and approaches taken to be easy to link across a broad spectrum of attendees.

2018 APA CALIFORNIA CONFERENCE: SHAPING OUR FUTURE - OCT 7-10, SAN DIEGO



As you may have heard, the 2018 APA California Conference will be located in San Diego from October 7-10. The theme of the conference, "Shaping Our Future: Planning Places for All" reflects the task planners face throughout their careers. The work done today will shape how communities grow and meet the challenges of the future. California strives to develop inclusive, dynamic neighborhoods; therefore, it is important that you share  your experiences, successes, and ideas with other planners at the 2018 APA California Conference this year.
