A sincere thank you to all interested community members who took the time to vote in the election on important local and statewide issues. Our city demonstrated a strong voter turnout: 19,313 ballots were issued to Bainbridge Island and as of Thursday afternoon
15,451 were returned, according to the Kitsap County Auditor's Office.
The City's Proposition 1 to fund $15 million in transportation and accessibility projects failed to receive a majority of votes and was defeated.
The City will continue to pursue key projects related to non-motorized transportation, including trails, bike lanes, shoulder improvements and sidewalks. However, the pace of progress for these projects will be limited by the City's funding capacity and our ability to pursue and achieve grant funding.
This weekend includes our national observance of Veterans Day. We are a community in which many of our neighbors are in active military service or have served. Please take this opportunity to acknowledge and appreciate their contributions, and to reflect on how much impact their service has on your everyday life.

Road Work: Paving to Begin on Miller-Fletcher Bay Road Shoulder Improvement Project
We're reaching the final stages of the shoulder improvement project along Miller - Fletcher Bay Roads.
Crews will begin paving work along Miller Road (from Tolo to Peterson Hill) and Fletcher Bay Road (from High School to new Brooklyn) next Monday, Nov. 12 to Wednesday, Nov. 14, likely from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Drivers should expect delays of 20 minutes or longer and are advised to use alternate routes. Learn more about the project here.

Get Involved: Hunger & Homelessness Awareness Week
As part of the effort to raise awareness about poverty, the City of Bainbridge Island recognizes November 11 - 19 as Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week. We hope you'll join Helpline House, Housing Resources Bainbridge and other organizations on the Island as they spend the week hosting a series of educational, community service and advocacy events. It's all part of the effort to shed light on the positive efforts of people and organizations in our community who are working to assist people with housing, food, employment and self-sufficiency.
- Nov. 11 - 19: Hygiene Drive (drop-off at Commodore Options School & BI Senior Center)
- Nov. 11 - 19: Equipment Drive (drop-off at BI Senior Center)
- Nov. 14: Parade from Ordway Elementary School to Helpline House
- Nov. 15: Trickle Down Town Film/Q&A at City Hall
The Interfaith Council is hosting an equipment drive at the BI Senior Center. Organizers are collecting tents, tarps, sleeping pads, and sleeping bags.
The parade from Ordway Elementary School will include students who fill their backpacks with food and walk to Helpline House.
The free, two-hour Trickle Down Town Film focuses on homelessness in our region and will be followed by a discussion with people from BIPD, Housing Resources Bainbridge, Helpline House, Real Change and the film maker. The event begins at 6 p.m. at City Hall. Learn more here.

Meeting Scheduled to Discuss Buoy Placement in Eagle Harbor
Earlier this year, the City Council voted to provide funding to expand the number of residential moorage sites in the Dave Ullin Open Water Marina (Eagle Harbor) from nine to 16, as allowed under the terms of the lease with the Department of Natural Resources.
The Marine Access Committee is hosting a public meeting to get comments on this topic to develop a set of recommendations for staff to decide how and where the buoys should be located in Eagle Harbor.
The meeting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 10 in the Council Chamber.

Call for Participation: Seeking Applicants for Citizen Advisory Groups
We're looking for volunteers to fill vacancies on three citizen committees:
- Ethics Board (one position through June 2021)
- Environmental Technical Advisory Committee (one position through June 2019)
- Marine Access Committee (one position through June 2020)
Applications are due by 4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 23. Applicants must be available Nov. 27 - Nov. 30 for interviews. Terms begin Dec. 31.
