Thank you to all the parents and guardians who attended our parent/teacher conferences this week.  Your attention to time and your willingness to enter into conversation for the good of your child, made the day a very productive one. We also thank our teachers for all of their work in preparing for each conference.

In honor of Veteran's Day, we had members from Westover Air Base representing both the Air Force and Army come to visit with the students today. They each explained their respective duties to a captive audience in multiple classrooms.

Next Wednesday evening, we are looking forward to our middle level Living History Museum. All of our students have been working hard on their projects, as you can see in the photos below.

Don't forget - no school on Monday.  Happy Veteran's Day!   Enjoy a nice, long weekend!

God's blessings,

Ms. Ann E. Dougal

Catching Up With 2A

It's that time of the year already! Where did the time go? First quarter has ended and we have moved into the second quarter. This is an important time of year. We had the opportunity on Tuesday to welcome our parents and guardians into school to discuss their child's academic progress and set forth goals for the months ahead. Thank you to all the parents and guardians who took the time out from their busy schedules to meet with us.

Our second graders have been working hard and continue to show growth in many areas as we move into the second quarter. This week we started Unit 2 in our religion class. Our main focus will be centered around the Sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation. This will be the second sacrament our students will make in their Faith Development.

In our ELA lessons, we will continue to strengthen our skills on short and long vowels, blends, base words, singular/plural nouns, Text and Graphic Features, Using Context, and Author's Word Choice just to name a few of the many skills we will cover this year. We will continue to read a variety of stories of different Genres. In math, we are learning about Numbers to 100. Comparing numbers, identifying odd and even numbers, add and subtract Tens, and looking for patterns using a hundreds chart. Wow! They certainly have been and will continue to be busy!

November is the month we learn, pray, and celebrate the Saints and the extraordinary lives they lived. Each morning we will learn about the life of a new Saint. Our classroom saint is St. Bernadette. The students will learn about the simple life she led and as a young girl, how the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to her. This month we will also pray and remember all our loved ones who are in Heaven during our daily prayers.

 Cans and Bottles!

                                  Can and Bottle Drive

Get ready...the bottle and can drive is next weekend, November 17th from 9 a.m. until noon. Grab your cans and bottles, grab your neighbor's cans and bottles, grab any cans and bottles you can get your hands on and head to the school next Saturday!

Support our school!

Around The Classroom

 Kindergarten Math Fun

There are many different ways to demonstrate math concepts.   Our Kindergarten students recently turned simple candy corn into math manipulatives!

And you know what?  None of the students even ate their manipulatives!

 Book Fair

Book Fair A Huge Success!

If you were able to stop by, you know that this year's Scholastic Book Fair was a fantastic success!  There was something for everyone and students left the Fair will a bag of books and a big smile.

A special thanks goes out to Mrs. Cornick and Mrs. Yacovone for coordinating the Fair and to all the parents and grandparents who volunteered their time to staff the Fair.

A Salute To Our Veterans

This Monday is Veteran's Day; a time for us to pay our respects to those who have served in our military.  We celebrate and  honor all of our veterans  for their patriotism, love of country and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good.

A huge thank you goes out to the military personnel from Westover Air Base representing both Air Force and Army members that visited our school today to teach the students about the various brances of the service.

  Living History Museum

Get Ready For The Living History Museum

Get ready to take a walk in time as our middle level students present The Living History Museum on Wednesday, November 14th from 6-7 p.m . in the 6th-8th grade classrooms.

The students have been working hard on their presentations that will focus on a famous person or time period from the past. Last year, we saw everything from the Stone Age to Alfred Einstein to the Roaring Twenties.

Can't wait to see what this year brings!

  Walk-a-thon

Congratulation Walk Winners !

Last Friday, we held our Walk-a-thon awards assembly.  We congratulate all of our students who helped raise money to make the Walk a wonderful success.  Although we were not able to break last year's total, we were able to raise over $19,000 for our school!

Thank you to all who donated.  We send out a special shout to Gabe who was our top school fundraiser and brought in $501.00.

And then there are the winners of the coveted limo ride to school!
