Catholic Schools Week
January 27 - Feb 2
Sunday, Jan. 27
Sunday is the opening day for Catholic Schools Week and what better way to kick off Catholic Schools Week then with Mass? All students are asked to attend a Mass in their school uniform (not their gym uniform) to Mass and at the end of Mass, they will receive a special out of uniform pass!
We will have a Open House following the 11:00 Mass from 12:00 - 2:00. Come on over and see all the wonderful things your children are doing everyday at school! Don't forget to bring a friend.

Monday, Jan. 28 - Jersey and Soup Day
Wear your favorite team jersey to school today with your uniform. Also, bring a can of soup - or two - to vote for who you think is going to win the "soup"er bowl. All cans of soup will be donated to God's Pantry.

STEM Day! Our students will be working in teams of 4, mixed grade levels, to solve an engineering problem. Everyone is invited to come to school at 2:00 to see their solutions and talk with the future problem solvers! To make our STEM Day successful, we are still in need of tape - both masking and scotch tape. Even with the generous donation of newspapers from the Herald Leader yesterday, we still need more newspaper.

Tuesday, Jan. 29 - Hat Day
Wear a hat to school today. You will have to remove your hat for Mass, prayer and pledge.

Family Mass. We hope that all our families can join us for Mass at 8:15. We will be sitting as families at Mass.

After Mass, we will be taking our school picture, the one that includes all of us. We are asking all our middle school students to bring a white shirt to wear for the picture, it can be with or without a collar and the rest of the students to bring a Ky blue shirt to wear, it can be with or without a collar.

Wednesday, Jan 30 - Wacky Wednesday
Students may dress as their teacher or their favorite superhero today - just wait to see who the teachers will be dressed like! No jeans, no masks, no make-up, hair color or nail polish.

Our fourth grade will be joining representatives from all the Catholic Schools at the Cathedral to celebrate Mass with Bishop John.

Thursday, Jan. 31 - Crazy Sock Day
Students are encouraged to wear crazy socks today with their uniform.

Today is our famous Panther Palooza day! Please see attached link for more information on how your child can participate. Panther Palooza

Catholics at the Capitol - at Pax Christi Church, 7:00 - 9:00 pm.

Friday, Feb. 1 - out of uniform day!
All students and staff are out of uniform today. We will enter into the school day today in a fun way, if at all possible, please have your child to school by 7:45 am.

Student and Staff Day! We will be playing bingo and dismissing at 1:00 today. No after care will be provided so that we can take our staff out to lunch today.

How can you help?
  • Invite a friend who isn't currently enrolled at Mary Queen to our Open House and show them all the great things going on at your school
  • STEM Day needed supplies: newspapers, scotch tape and masking tape
  • send in $2 per child to school to help to pay for teacher luncheons
  • Do you have a small items laying around the house that would be good for bingo prizes? We would love to share them with the students.
  • Keep an eye out on our Facebook page and share the information with family and friends
  • Pray for us and for all Catholic Schools, that we can continue to build faith-filled servant leaders.

Catholic Schools Week - it's here! A time to celebrate the opportunity provided by a Catholic education. It is our honor to announce the formation of the Linda Rukavina Scholarship - designated to help make the Kindergarten experience at Mary Queen School more attainable. Teachers touch our lives in the most profound ways. Mary Queen was blessed to have one such teacher, Linda Rukavina, from 1995-2015. Mrs. Rukavina made an impact on many as a teacher of Kindergarten aged students. Her patience, care and ability to connect with the young student made her a true gem. Mrs. Rukavina loved the children and teaching at Mary Queen School. Please - help us join together to honor Mrs. Rukavina by helping make the Kindergarten experience more attainable for others.
