J-TEHM and T-BME EiC Search Underway
Search for Editor-in-Chief (J-TEHM)

The  IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society (EMBS)  is undertaking a search for Editor-In-Chief for the  IEEE Journal of Translational Engineering in Health and Medicine (J-TEHM) . JTEHM is an open-access PubMed indexed journal that bridges the engineering and clinical worlds, focusing on detailed descriptions of advanced technical solutions to a clinical need along with clinical results and healthcare relevance.

We seek an Editor-in-Chief who is internationally recognized and can bridge the engineering and clinical translation worlds. The ideal candidate has a vision for how to further engage the translational medicine community and position it as a recognized forum for technology translation in healthcare and clinical research for researchers, technology developers, healthcare providers including practicing physicians, and other stakeholders. We seek candidates who articulate a vision for reaching out and partnering with IEEE communities, clinical societies and who also have an understanding of the challenges in managing an open-access journal.

Search for Editor-in-Chief (T-BME)

The IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society (EMBS)  is undertaking a search for Editor-In-Chief for the  IEEE Transactions on Biomedical Engineering (TBME) . TBME seeks to publish high quality manuscripts with broad appeal to the entire field of biomedical engineering. These topics are basic and applied, and range from engineering development of methods and techniques with biomedical applications through experimental and clinical investigations with engineering contributions.

We seek an Editor-in-Chief (EiC) who is internationally recognized and has a broad perspective on biomedical engineering who will continue the rising stature of the journal. Prior journal service or editorial experience is desirable, as the journal receives over 1500 submissions per year and has nearly 100 Associate Editors. The ideal candidate has a vision for how to improve the quality of review, raise the stature of the journal, and handle efficiently the logistics of paper management.

EMBC 2018
1 Page Research Poster Paper DEADLINE is April 18, 2018
1 Page Research Posters
At least one author of the paper must be registered at the appropriate full conference rate (Member, Non-member, Student member, Student non-member) in order to upload the final paper. If complete payment of a registration fee is not received, authors will not be able to proceed with uploading their final manuscript. While any author of the paper may be registered, only the designated "corresponding author" may upload the final paper. Once a manuscript has been uploaded, the registration fees cannot be refunded. Please be sure that the attending author completes payment and uploads the final paper. This means that they must be the "corresponding author".

IEEE Brain eLearning Module Series
First Module: Ethical Issues in Neural Technologies
The first module in this IEEE Brain eLearning Module series covers Ethical Issues in Neural Technologies. The session gives a general introduction to ethical issues in neural engineering. These issues range from the abstract, such as different ethical theories and systems, to the concrete, including particular ethical issues that arise during neural engineering research and interdisciplinary techniques for managing these ethical issues. Participants will find this introduction both compelling and practical -- providing philosophical topics to think about as well as concrete tools for assessing research and product development.

Toward Better Management for Asthma
FROM SMART INHALERS TO INJECTIONS TO WEARABLES, RESEARCHERS
ARE FINDING NEW WAYS TO IMPROVE ASTHMA TREATMENT.
Over the last 20 years, the global burden of asthma has increased by almost 30%, as more than 235 million people-most of them children-cope with the breathlessness and wheezing characteristic of the disease. Asthma has no cure, but patients can manage their condition using inhalers, generally the first line of treatment. For inhalers currently on the market to be the most efficacious, both patients and healthcare professionals need a significant amount of training.

Today, companies and researchers are working to devise inhalers that are less dependent on patient usage and can deliver the drugs asthmatics need more consistently. In recent years, researchers have also begun developing pills and injections to manage more severe forms of the disease, and other groups have designed wearable devices to track respiratory patterns and patient adherence as a way to prevent the onset of an asthma attack.

A Special Issue/Section on "Advanced and Intelligent Technology for Dementia Care: Theory, Methods, and Applications" in IEEE Reviews in Biomedical Engineering
Call for Papers
Utilizing modern advanced information and intelligence technology in dementia care has offered promising solutions for efficiently delivering many kinds of health services to dementia patients, related to non-invasive and cost-effective tools for early detection and identification of aetiology and risk factors, innovative systems with application to effectively monitor the progression of disease, new use of design in helping people with dementia to engage socially and improve subjective well-being, cost-effective point-to-care technologies for dementia sufferers.

The successful utilization of these technologies in dementia care will enable faster and safer behaviour monitoring and intervention delivery, optimal response to health behaviour trajectory, lower overall cost and enhanced sustainability. While a large volume of high quality, innovative technology research is ongoing to improve dementia care, so far there has been little benefit because research has generally been limited, small scale and methodologically flawed. It is highly demanded to conduct some systematic and in-depth reviews of engineering methodologies and applications in dementia care, to bridge the gap between knowledge and practice.
