Our Two Cents: The Dainese Speciale leather jacket is another style in a large group of closeouts we acquired from Dainese. It offers special “retro” cafe styling in one color only, Black/Red. The Speciale comes with Dainese Pro-Armor in the shoulders and elbows and a compartment for a back pad which is optional.
This jacket has styling queues you’d have found on bike jackets from the seventies and eighties such as the quilted red down the shoulders and arms and the special “DAINESE” lettering on the back. On the right sleeve, you’ll see a “Mr. Martini” patch. Nicola Martini is a custom bike builder in Italy ( read about him here ).
The leather used in this jacket is a mid-weight leather that is plenty sturdy enough for motorcycle use. The finish is a bit different than some leather jackets. Its a “shiny” finish, but the surface of the leather is treated specially to give it a somewhat “crackled” look. Its hard to describe, but it gives the look of a very well cared for, but vintage jacket. It’s not so different from any other jacket that most people would notice, but some might think you really scored a find in a vintage bike apparel shop.
This jacket looks decades old but it has modern protection features that are very recent introductions by Dainese. The armor included..... See The Full Review
This product is sold in European sizes. Generally speaking, the US chest size in inches is equivalent to roughly 10 points less than the European jacket size. Example: a 56 Euro jacket is similar to a size 46/XL men’s US size. But since this jacket style runs a bit more snugly, we recommend buying one size larger, add about 12 points to your US chest size to get the right Euro size. I’d suggest you measure yourself with a tape and get your chest size and belly size, then use the size chart to pick the smallest size jacket that will be big enough for both your chest and belly using the chart on the item page. Approximate US alpha sizes are also listed in the chart so you can check if the jacket size you choose is the same alpha size as you normally wear in men’s clothing.
I’d call the overall cut of this jacket “sport casual”. It is meant to fit snug, but it doesn’t taper nearly as much as sport/race jackets. The difference between the max chest and max belly is about 2” or less.
