** FLOOD WATCH AND WIND WARNING **
February 12 - 14
The National Weather Service (NSW) has issued a Flash Flood Watch and High Wind Warning for coastal regions and hills above 1000 feet, effective from Tuesday night through Thursday morning. Per the NWS, a "Flood Watch" is issued when conditions are favorable for flooding. A "High Wind Warning" is defined as, "sustained, strong winds with even stronger gusts are happening." It does not mean flooding will occur, but it is possible. This storm will bring high risks for the following: High wind risks, Power Outages and Flood Risk.

During this period, the region will see moderate to locally heavy rain with high gusty winds up to 60 mph. The heavy rainfall will likely cause flooding of rivers and streams. Gusty winds combined with the rain will blow down trees and power lines; scattered power outages are expected. Rain changes to showers by Thursday.  Please see tips below on how to prepare for wet weather.  Also, please find Rain Ready storm preparedness materials in the pdf link below.
Please encourage your community to be prepared with following wet weather preparedness and safety tips. For additional weather information, please visit  www.sf72.org/em/home
San Francisco's Homeless Outreach Team will be reaching out to unsheltered residents to help get them indoors. If you see someone in need of shelter, please call 3-1-1. If someone is having a medical emergency call 9-1-1.

Wet Weather Preparedness and Safety Tips:

  • Check your supplies and make sure you have what you need on hand: http://www.sf72.org/supplies.
  • Check on friends and family who may need assistance during the storm, especially older adults or neighbors with disabilities.
  • Remove debris and sweep up any leaves from sidewalks and storm drains to keep them from getting clogged.
  • Call 3-1-1 for non-life threatening storm issues (clogged storm drains). Call 9-1-1 for emergencies:  www.maketherightcallsf.org
  • Sign up for AlertSF by texting your Zip Code to 888-777 for real-time emergency alerts.
  • If the power goes out, unplug and turnoff appliances. Leave one light on to signal when power is restored.
  • Avoid  using candles because they are a fire hazard, especially in San  Francisco due to so many wood buildings and the high winds associated  with this storm.
  • Have flashlights and extra batteries on hand.
  • Stay away from flooded areas and downed power lines whether in car or on foot.
  • Do not touch electrical equipment if you are wet or standing in water.
  • Stay  informed: tune-in to KCBS (740 AM or 106.9 FM), local TV channels, or  social media (@sf_emergency; @sfwater; @sfpublicworks; @sfdph ) for  emergency advisories and instructions.
