September 20, 2018

Dear Parents,

We have had an amazing week!  I absolutely loved going up into the hot air balloon yesterday.  Mrs. Dawson and I enjoyed our trip, and I would highly recommend anyone to take this adventure.  Some fun facts about our trip is that we traveled at a rate of 12 mph, and at one point, we were 3,000 feet high.  We landed in a hay field on the outskirts of New Hope and Princeton. If you would like to see a glimpse of our adventure, please click here . We appreciate you supporting your child this summer on our reading program.  THANK YOU!!
I hope that you will be able to join us tonight for our ice cream social.  This is a fantastic, FREE event sponsored by our PTA to meet new families and make connections. Plus, who doesn't love ice cream?  This is a come and go event from 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm. I look forward to seeing all of you tonight for this great event.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at anytime.

All My Best,
Wendy Craft

NEW! PTA Reflections
Heroes don't always wear capes! The National PTA Reflections program encourages students of all ages and abilities to explore and be involved in the arts. Through the program, National PTA, Lovejoy Local and Council PTAs, and PTAs across the country urge students in preschool through grade 12 to create and submit original works. This year's contest theme is "Heroes Around Me".  We hope all Leopards will submit an entry in one or more of the following categories: Dance Choreography, Literature, Film Production, Photography, Visual Arts, and Music Composition - reflecting on the specific theme. There is a special artist division option for students with disabilities to ensure all students have the opportunity to participate in the program. Students are recognized each year for their artistic ingenuity to bring the theme to life in a way that is personal and meaningful. The deadline is Friday, November 2nd.  Please contact Lindsay Thomas with questions.

NEW! Visitors/Volunteers
With our new Raptor system which checks in visitors and students, the first time that you check in requires a little longer process.  Therefore, if you have a few extra minutes, please come by the school and check in, as it will make the process go faster when you need to check your child out and are in a time crunch.

NEW! New Check In/Out Procedure for Big Events
For our major events, like Leopard Live or class parties, we will have a new check in/out system. If you are a cleared volunteer that has gone through the Lovejoy ISD volunteer process, you will be directed to our Priority Check-In Station. You will be asked to present your driver's license and will then be checked against our master list and receive a visitor badge.  At the end of the event, you will need to exit through the office and check out in the same manner. If you have not completed the volunteer process, you will have to check in through our Raptor System with your driver's license. We encourage you to plan ahead and give yourself plenty of time for this process. The safety of our students and staff is our first priority.  Thank you in advance for your patience with our new check in/out system. If you would like to be a part of the Priority Check in/out system, please click here to fill out the volunteer application.

Talent Show: The Healthy Selfie Showcase!
It's time to start thinking of planning and preparing for Lovejoy's annual talent show! This year we are excited to showcase our students' talents as a culmination of our Red Ribbon Week celebration on Thursday, October 25. Since we know that in order to master a talent or skill, you need a healthy, drug free mind and body, we can't think of a better way to end the week than to show what our students can do when they commit to living a healthy drug free life! Our theme for Red Ribbon Week is, "I Love My Drug Free Selfie!" and to go along with that theme, our talent show will be called the "Healthy Selfie Showcase!" We are requesting that all acts relate to or align with that theme and demonstrate how students' "healthy selfies" allow them to perform special talents and skills at their highest level. Talent Show registration will be completed online this year.
Please click here to access the Talent Show rules and guidelines.  The online registration form can be found here .  Music may be emailed to Wendy Hebert or submitted to this Google Drive .   We can't wait to see what incredible talents our little leopards bring to our Healthy Selfie Showcase!

"As an incoming senior, I have selected a project that is close to my heart. There is a "Toy Closet" at the Cancer Hospital from which patients can choose an item to help during their stay. I want to stock the Closet with as many toys as possible.  In order to purchase toys for the closet, donation bins will be placed at each of the schools and the red building. These bins will be collecting gently used Lovejoy Spirit Wear. Once collected, the spirit wear will be sold and the money used to buy Toys for the Closet. The toys will be donated in memory of Walker Jack Rainey. I can be reached at [email protected] with any comments or questions. Thank you for your generosity."
